The first Candy Cakes that I ever visited was situated in Covent Garden in 2009, and I have loved this franchise ever since! Everything that they do is so ‘out of the box’, that I have now come to never expect ordinary from them. Their attention to detail on their exquisite cupcakes is just special (photos attached).. Now for their drink offerings: When it comes to drinks, their coffee is good, but what I really love to treat myself to is their extraordinary ‘Candy Shakes’ made from Italian ice cream. *Recommendation: For me, to have both the cupcake and shake all in one go, is just too much sugar, so to avoid a sugar overdose, I would recommend trying them out one at a time (if you can hold yourself back)! 😉 laurasworld.co.za
I first came across Candy Cakes when it was situated in Kingly Court. This quirky little bakery specialises in brightly coloured cupcakes, topped with colourful icing and various candies. I tried a vanilla cupcake frosted in fluorescent blue and topped with a piece of liquorice. Not as perfect as the cakes from Hummingbirds but worth a try.
Candy Cakes is an adorably sweet cupcake shop located right inside Baker Street Station. It’s therefore perfect for grabbing an indulgent snack before a tiresome, sweaty tube journey. The pastel pop-art colours of the storefront are mimicked in their cupcake range on display. A lot of the cakes are studded with sweets or assorted toppings. Some of the cakes are a bit too bright and bold – I’d worry about my mouth turning blue with a few! But all in all, if you’re a fan of plentiful and beautiful frosting, then Candy Cakes is for you. The prices are reasonable and the satisfaction factor is priceless.
