I realised this is my first time reviewing an Arab place in London. Fairuz is a cosy and relaxed restaurant in a prime location in Marlybone. I usually hesitate to order raw meat – kebbeh nayyeh outside the Middle East, but the place was so spotless and relaxing that I went ahead and ordered it. Just when I thought things were perfect as it tasted great, the waitress followed it up with a bowl of raw white sweet onions – the proper way to savor kebbeh nayyeh. It felt like such an authentic experience. The tabbouleh had the perfect lemony zest, the kafta arayess were amazing and all appetisers all in all were great except for the Makanek which surprisingly came off as very dry. Now came the mixed grills and boy were we in for a pleasant surprise. I don’t recall having such tender lamb meat chunks and shish taouk outside the Levant; heavily seasoned to perfection and incredibly succulent. We were then treated to a delicious mhallabieh. An amazing experience. Definitely in my top Lebanese restaurants in London. Will come here again and again and again. Final Verdict: 9/10. 40 – 50 a person.

The location is great, right on blandford street which is really the restaurant alley of Marylebone. The service as several people have mentioned already is a bit strange though. I have been to the place a few times now, and its very hit and miss on the service front. Sometimes they welcome you warmly and are attentive and at other times especially when the restaurant is busy, it can be a pain just to get the server’s attention.I always appreciate when you go to a restaurant and they put out some nibbles in front of you so you can munch on something while you are pondering what to order, and then waiting for the order to come. So their concept here is pretty good, where they give you olives as well as a bowl of … I should say salad but it is really just a bunch of raw veggies, not even cut up – tomatoes, cabbage, etc — To be honest I really dont mind that, in fact I quite like it EXCEPT this too has been hit and miss. Half the times I have been here they have somehow forgotten to give us the stuff (esp hen tables next to us have had it !!)The quality of the food is decent though. I like the starters in particular. To be clear, I didnt go here expecting some great innovations in food and something I had never tasted before in Lebanese cuisine, and there were none to be had. But everything lived up to mark atleast and was well done. The main courses unfortunately I have always found a bit disappointing. Especially since the starters build up the meal well which the entrs never live up to !Overall I would say if in the area, certainly better options for Lebanese food around, I mean we are right next to edgeware road even ! But this is not too bad an option and generally I have found easy to get into without reservations even on a Friday night
The waiters are very tolerant. I once had a lunch here that ended at around 6 PM. It was an interview. The person I was interviewed made a pass at me, helped himself to a glass of wine from an adjoining table and had to be loaded into a cab by two of the waiters. They have been kind enough never to have mentioned it on numerous occasions that I have been here since. It’s not trendy and it’s not cutting-edge but it is reliable and it has a good few staples which I would recommend. Particularly good is the hummous with minced lamb; the aubergine in yoghurt with garlic and pomegranate; the mixed grill with thin flatbed. If they like you, they will bring you fruit at the end together with some baklava which you really won’t need. My tip is to go for starters rather than the main course 3 to 4 each will do it. The wine list could do with a little bit of updating but this is an old favourite and I’ve never had a bad meal there thefoodjudge.com
Disappointing.. I have visited Fairuz many times over the years and have always enjoyed the experience. I have been overseas for a quite a while, however last week I found myself in London meeting a friend. We had lunch at Fairuz. The welcome was ‘underwhelming’. The food average. The decor dated and extremely dusty, and the bathrooms downstairs quite horrible. I’m afraid it is in desperate need of a major over-hall. I won’t be going back in a hurry.
