A must go to book in advance and you will get a 2 hour slot in Marylebone’sspeakeasy bar right next to the Chiltern Firehouse. An array of odd cocktails(mine came in a sun lotion pot) and complimentary cucumber sandwiches. Around12 a cocktail but worth it for the atmosphere and the quirkiness.

outstanding speakeasy bar with unique personelle and carefully selected music of blues, swing, vocal and rock n roll. it delivera what it promises and is an ideal hangout for dates, with mates or just hiding out in marylebone. i hope more of this kind open up in west london.

Purl is a real personal favourite of mine,Being a huge fan of speakeasys, I can certainly say that Purl ranks amongst the best in London. The strictly-enforced seating-only policy creates a nice homely vibe. Furthermore, this policy allows for patrons to enjoy their drinks without having to worry about negotiating their way through a crowd. The drinks are excellent and spectacular. Expect bucket-loads of dry ice and even a couple of explosions! Ultimately, everyone has different tastes when it comes to cocktails, so I won’t bother recommending a drink in particular. All I would say, is be as adventurous as possible. If you get lost, then ask a member of staff – they are all extremely knowledgeable and will be able to find you something that caters to your taste.

Purl’s self-confessed aim is to ‘bring classic cocktails back to the forefront of London’s drinking scene, whilst adding new flare and creativity to forgotten libations’. Taking its name from an old drink of warm ale, gin and wormwood (rather than a knitting term), Purl is nestled between Baker Street and Marylebone High Street, and was the forerunner of Shoreditch’s Worship Street Whistling Shop. It’s like stepping back in time as you enter the bar (reservations practically strictly necessary) with the barmen all in bowties and braces, the lights set to low, and one of the most interesting-sounding menus I’ve ever seen.I started with a Mr Hyde’s Fixer Upper – a combination of Ron Zacapa, Pedro Ximeno sherry, a cola reduction and bitters – which comes smoked and sealed in a test tube. A glass beaker with nitrous oxide billows camomile and lapsang fog (not drinkable!) and makes for a real showstopper of an entrance. It was very strong and very smokey; perhaps not one for the faint hearted. My second was a Smokey & The Blinder – their take on a margarita with a vanilla salt and pepper rim, and a small piece of salmon smoked in a salted seaweed and charcoal mason jar. The tastes worked well together and certainly made an impression; your average mojito type place this is not.The atmosphere was buzzy, with people coming and going. Our waiter was very attentive, carefully explaining each element of our drinks as they arrived, but without being too intrusive. With jazz quietly tinkling away in the background and the candle-lit ambience, I did feel as if I’d been whisked back to the 1920s. Purl’s a great place for wowing, but I can’t help but feel that I’d have liked a little more depth to the drinks in place of some of the show… and so, this time, it gets a three out of five… thenotsosecretdiary.com

Purl is a really cool underground bar, with a buzzing yet casual atmosphere. I visited for drinks with a few friends recently. I love the jazz music playing; not many bars in London play only jazz, but it creates an intimate feel for a relaxed evening.Given the size of the venue, there is quite a lot of seating, so you don’t have to linger around the bar. The staff are usually quite friendly, however when it gets busy they seem to always be rushed and unwilling to assist.Purl has a wide selection of drinks, and the cocktails are a must try. Given its location, the drinks are reasonably priced. I had a great evening and will be returning soon.

My boyfriend really enjoys his cocktail so i booked this place for three cocktails masterclass. The decor of this place was really nice and beautiful too look at. The cocktails were very nice and refreshing and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place to every one!

If you are planning to pay this place a visit then might as well get a booking done prior to your visit because this place is usually packed. The food served is fresh and delicious. The pricing is a bit high but as per the portions, it’s justified. Purl definitely happens to be a great place to be in. The ambiance, decor, staff and their service and portions of food served, everything is just amazing. Recommended.
