I first visited Forest On The Roof shortly after it opened for the Winter season in December purely by chance, as I was in Selfridges, it seemed lovely and they miraculously had a table for two free on a Saturday evening. Im so glad I did, because Forest On The Roof has become my go to for a casual, memorable bite to eat with people visiting me in London (and just friends in general, but for a tourist its quite memorable!). It opened again for the Spring season on March 24th.The whole Forest On The Roof experience is perfect, and for very reasonable cost. Youre escorted up in the lift from the main department store floor a specific express lift only goes to the rooftop and when you step out, its already themed like a forest, with branches and fairy lights in the lobby. Further lit up branches create a passage in the corridor as you head toward the bar/restaurant making for a gorgeous photo op! You can just visit the bar, but I have always eaten in the restaurant there is a choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Indoors is lovely, with a minimal rustic interior, and dependent on where youre seated you have a great view of the kitchen always reassuring! It can get a little chilly mind you if youre seated near the terrace, as theyre only divided with plastic. Outside, in my opinion is the place to be, on the romantic terrace, with a view of the Selfridges flags and a little London view particularly lovely in the evening. There are some huts on the terrace too which are decked out in blankets and furs. Service is fantastic the staff are really friendly and knowledgeable about the food, as well as being really helpful when accommodating special dietary requirements. The food is superb for the quality and presentation I would normally expect a much higher price. My favourite is the venison steak and I cant forget to mention the desserts. One in particular is basically a chocolatey cherry mess designed to look like the forest floor, with little mushrooms and edible flowers. So beautiful. The presentation manages to be novel and cute while staying classy. Quite an achievement. The cocktail menu is also pretty special priced in line with most London bars, with cocktails starting around the 8 mark. For a special, immersive meal in Londons West End which wont break the bank, Forest On The Roof is my top pick. I absolutely love it.
Food was average, nothing special expect the forest themed chocolate forest which looks really cute. Yet the taste was average and somehow too sweet, even for dark chocolate. Fish was way too salty and lamb doesn’t have the ‘aftertaste’ as desired by some of us. Fortunately, the interior was beautiful. You first walk past a corridor of forest-themed fairy-lights, looking magically stunning especially at night. Then welcomed by staff into a forest themed bar and restaurant. Loving the vibe! Recommend to go for dinner!
