Disgraceful. Once I order the wait time was approximately 80 minutes wait. This was of course a lie, and the actual food was delivered 45 minutes later than the time given, meaning I had to wait over 2 hours since I ordered. Don’t waste your time.
I have consumed more Chinese takeaways than I care to divulge . . . but needless to say, I know what’s what when it comes to this guilty pleasure. Sadly, I can’t give Lotus House more than a 2.5 rating for a variety of reasons. The food ranged from tasty to acceptable. We opted for crispy spicy beef, sweet and sour pork, spicy broccoli, and egg fried rice. The rice was aromatic and satisfying, filled with a nice amount of egg. The broccoli was delicious, with a heat that lingered for less than a few seconds before leaving you wanting more. The spicy beef was far from the best I’ve had, but very satisfying– nicely crisp and hot. The pork, however, was sadly mushy. I attribute a lot of the meal’s quality to the length of time it took to actually get our food. For a restaurant that specializes in takeaway and delivery, I can’t say I’m overly impressed. One would hope that a restaurant devoted to takeaway would be good at it . . . It took nearly 90 minutes for our food to arrive, and by the time we opened it, it was lukewarm at most. (we only live about a 20 minute walk from the Lotus House!) The highly breaded pork was soggy and moist. If there is one thing I don’t want my Chinese takeaway to be, it’s moist. While I give the food an overall 3.0, the delivery time and quality of the food by the time it arrived brings it down to a 2.5. I recommend ordering from Lotus House only if you live close enough to pick it up yourself.
