Visited Deolalis on a Tuesday night around 7.00 p.m just as it was starting to fill up. It was the first time my partner and I had been here and we were impressed from the moment we spotted the building which is adjacent to the Bull’s Head in Moseley. The upstairs room, furnishings and decor really make the place stand out. We found the service excellent, the waiters friendly and attentive. Food was of a high standard and reasonably priced albeit from a slighly limited choice on the menu. Overall a very enjoyable experience and would recomment the place highly.
Located in the heart of Moseley, Deolali is a gem in the crown of Birminghams fine Indian dining, which sparkles all the more for its reasonable prices.AtmosphereWith its exposed brickwork and high ceilings, the restaurant has a cosy yet classy feel. Sadly, the music playing on our arrival let the ambience down. Theres a time and a place for Michael Jackson tunes and dinner at an elegant restaurant is not of them.foodThere was much ooing and ahhing over the prawn puree – prawns sauteed with onions, peppers and spices, in a fried pancake. I savoured every mouthful of the delectable chilli chicken. Sadly we knew we had to leave some room for mains. The lamb passanda fillets of lamb in a mild & creamy sauce flavoured with spices and ground pistachios was mouthwateringly delicious. The sauce didnt overpower the lamb. The Deolali monkfish wasmarinated in a sauce of spring onions, peppers, tomatoes, and ginger. Coated in fresh breadcrumbs and flash fried, this dish was packed with flavour.Saag paneer tasted fresh and healthy. Its clear Deolali have set themselves a high standard in sourcing only the freshest, quality ingredients possible. The starters and mains were so impressive that I didnt mind the rather limited dessert menu. A cheesecake lightly rounded off my feast.drinksThere is an extensive wine list to keep connoisseurs happy as well as a good selection of champagnes. I was introduced to the award winning Soul Tree Indian wines. Soul tree cabernet sauvignon went down a treat with all our chosen dishes.overallService was a little hit and miss but I did appreciate the Desi style option we were given – whether we wanted extra chilli in our choices. Deolali serves up fantastic Indian cuisine in lovely surroundings. I can give no higher praise than to say I look forward to taking my mum there very soon. dinebirmingham.co.uk
A funny place. Used to be lovely inside. Now looks tacky after a refurb. Seems to have changed management on at least one occasion since it opened. Its still quite smart it just looked better before the refurb.I have visited 3 times. one time i had quite sublime food. Twice i have walked out because of awful service
