If you’re looking for authentic (north) Indian food, this place is well worth a punt. Conversely, if you want to be impressed by expensive furniture and like taking selfies in trendy places, you’re better off looking elsewhere. Sea Rock is a ‘members club’ type restaurant where the food does the talking. Make no mistake, it’s clean, it’s tidy and it’s certainly somewhere you can feel comfortable. But it is definitely not decorated with dark wood carvings and there’s no sparkling ornaments from the motherland; it’s plain yet colorful and it’s simple, yet sufficient. I’ve known of its existence for about a decade, but never got around to trying it out. Last night my wife and I did. Nothing planned, purely on a whim. First impressions are that it does look like a members club: a prominent bar and multiple television screens conveniently placed for comfortable viewing. Most of the patrons appeared to be locals. The furniture is basic (but clean). It wasn’t very busy to begin with, and even when the numbers did increase (of mostly Indian appearance) we didn’t really notice a change as it’s very relaxed and has a very discreet atmosphere about the place. I found myself looking at the decor and furniture as we waited for our orders, but as soon as the food was presented, nothing else mattered. It delivered. I even sneakily glanced around to see what other people were eating and everything looked as amazing. The lamb was freshly cooked; the chicken was succulent and moist; and the lassi I had with my meal was one of the best I’ve ever had (made by someone who knows what a lassi should taste like). There are no frills here and definitely no gimmicks. The chef, we were told, is Punjabi and Punjabis don’t mess about. Without question I would visit again. Those tandoori chicken wings were amazing!
