London is full of Greek cuisine, but Mazi has been my favourite for quite some time. Inspired by the foods of old Greece, this charming restaurant brings together classic dishes handed down for generations and a contemporary flair for presentation and style. The whole concept of Mazi revolves around the fact that their dishes are meant to be shared by every guest at the table, which was perfect for my friend and I. When we arrived, we were greeted by our friendly server, who was more than happy to explain the menu. We started with perfectly grilled aubergine, with a touch of soy and thyme honey, and an authentic tzatziki with only a pinch of garlic, which were uniquely presented in rustic glass jars. We also shared a hot plate of feta tempura, served with lemon marmalade and caper meringue. I loved the mix of the creamy feta with the crunchy batter, and the tanginess of the lemon and sweetness of the capers were spot on. For the one of the mains, we had grilled octopus, which was delicious and perfectly charred, and the herbed potato salad and olive tapenade were the perfect accompaniments. My absolute favorite part was the Greek desserts, which we shared, but I was more than content to eat them all myself. The Galaktoboureko was delicious, the custard creamy and the dough light and flaky, with a hint of sweet syrup. We also enjoyed frozen Greek yogurt, topped with candied quince and a cinnamon oat crunch. Yum!Mazi is the best modern representation of the Greek cuisine in London, and the service and staff were excellent and accommodating. I particularly loved the way the food was presented, which really tied the rustic vibe of the restaurants dcor into the food. I highly recommend Mazi for anyone looking to escape to Greece through their taste buds!
Very comfortable and homely restaurant serving delicious modern Greek food. The menu is very creative and all dishes we tried were excellent. It’s a bit pricey for relatively small portions – but you do taste that the food is really high quality. Atmosphere is very warm and lively, feels very comfortable there but it can get a little bit loud at times as tables are very close to each other. Service was ok. Would definitely recommend this place for someone who would like to try Greek food that is more than what you traditionally get!
Greek Tragedy!. I am afraid the owners of this restaurant didn’t even give us the opportunity to try their food…such was unwelcoming and rude their ‘welcome’ in the restaurant.I am Greek and last Sunday was Greek Orthodox Easter so I had this fabulous idea to book for our Easter lunch a table to MAZI as I read so many nice reviews in the press…I called 3 weeks in advance to make sure I get a nice table for 5 as we had family visiting for the holiday and I really wanted them to enjoy. Upon arrival we had to wait a few minutes for the lady in charge to pay attention to us. When she showed us our table we thought there must be some sort of mistake as it was big enough only for 3!!! When we mentioned that she said that there was no other table available and that they warned us during the reservation that we will be squeezed….No way I would have booked a table for Easter lunch with family knowing that we will be squeezed like being in the northern line during rush hour…we proposed to add a second table which was empty next to ours but the response was that there was no more chairs…Seriously???? And to top this extremely unpleasant discussion she then called somebody else who came to tell us in a very rude and obnoxious manner that we should know about the squeezing situation and that he had 100 people on his waiting list for that day…Again…Seriously??? Its worth mentioning that it is a very small and narrow restaurant….. Where was he planning to put all those people??? So we left wondering why would we care to go back there? Try the food when the service is so so bad from the moment you enter through the door….and in such a special day…If I was you I would wait to go to Greece to eat Greek food…Don’t go there…Ever!!!
Totally not worth it. Portions ridiculously small and so greasy and unhealthy I need to walk straight out to Hyde park and start running laps. Another example of a poor quality restaurant opening in a posh area and thinking they can charge exorbitant prices for any old nonsense. Real waste of time. And on top of that I’m still hungry …….
