Great place for cocktails and gins. Multiple options of gins & tonics with great serves and expertise staff that helps you to recommend what suits for you. We had Martin Millers, Portobello Road, Xoriguer, Botanist and Ophir all of them were great. The place is popular during weekends and afterwork hours.
Great bar in the heart of Notting Hill. Huge gin selection but the other cocktails are also excellent. I really like the vibe here, feels buzzing but also not too loud and quite intimate.
Thanks to my friend being chronically late, we didnt actually get to the Portobello Star until 11 pm but it was a Friday and it was open until 12:30 so didnt think that was too much of a problem. And it wasnt, but it was also a very strange place. The bar area was crammed with lairy guys doing shots and some other dodgy-looking characters, and the rest of the place was empty. We had a seat at a table (but you ordered at the bar) and had a couple of cocktails. Naturally we had to try the more interesting ones and I like to think normally I make good cocktail choices. Not so here, and while I would be ready to accept the blame for my poor choices, I dont know why you would ever have such vile-tasting cocktails on a menu!My friend got the Soyers nectar which we didnt love but was definitely the most palatable drink of the three we tried with raspberry, quince, apple, lemon and cinnamon mixed with gin. Im not sure what gave it the lovely blue hue it had but it was very pretty. I had the Whats so honey about peas, lovage and understanding. Much, much too much like drinking plants for my taste. I like an unusual drink but this was a step too far. I ended with the Slutty mermaid, mainly because it said it came with a mermaid (which was just a teeny little plastic thing that hooked on the side not impressive). The splash of seawater completely overpowered everything else and I practically had to hold my nose to finish it. At 9.50 for the drink there was no way I wasnt getting the alcohol even if every sip made me purse my lips in disapproval. After being chatted up by two guys basically employing the playground tactic of my mate fancies you we thought it about time to leave. jaminaward.wixsite.com
