The location is the only good thing about this place. Extremely disappointed with the service and food. Thankfully we had a good time as we got a table outside just by the basin and it was a lovely day. Inside ambience is pretty average. Service is very poor, we were sitting for an half an hour and no one came to ask for any orders. My friend then ordered a wine as recommended by the staff and after about 15min other member of staff appeared asking which wine did he order, which was ridiculous as he didn’t remember what was recommended by the other staff member. The portions of dishes was pretty small, but I assume that’s a scandanevian thing. Yet the restaurant was out of most of the staple things like meat balls! You come to a scandanevian Restaurant and learn that they are out of meat balls! Common! I would only recommend one dish which I really liked and it was homemade potted rabbit with fennel salad. Absolutely delicious! But definitely not going back here again.
Had the whole baked sea bream with capers lemon and dill in a white wine sauce. No doubt about it – the best piece of fish I have had for a very long time! Soft and melt in the mouth deliciousness! My friend had the avocado chilli sauce which was better than any I’ve had. And the salmon and potato salad, which he really enjoyed too. Lovely location – it was a bit chilly and spitting so we sat indoors by the window so had a lovely view of the canal. I can imagine in the height of summer this would be a lovely place to sit out for a glass of wine. Will definitely come back.
Oh dear. You know, I really like this place. I frequently meet friends for drinks here at weekends. The staff have always been super friendly and very attentive. I ate here the once about three months ago, just the house burger, where the food was great and the aforementioned service was evident. What a difference three months can make. Tonight, the service was dreadfully slow, cold to the point of being icy and inattentive. We had the same burger as months earlier but it was unseasoned, dry and chewy. I felt as if it had been engineered to suck moisture from my body. Even the bun was redolent of a monstrous experiment; a hybrid of a Mothers Pride white roll, packing cardboard and carpet underlay. I told the waitress that it was dry and not very pleasant and she told me they had changed the chef. I got the impression that this complaint wasn’t unusual. She did nothing about it. In point of fact she asked if we’d like anything else then took away our plates, never to return. My dining partner had to wave across the floor to get attention when, twenty minutes later we decided to pay. A smiling member of staff saw us (wish she’d been our server all along) and told the one remaining waiter who was drying cutlery at the till. He continued to dry his handful of cutlery, then another, then another and yet another, before printing our bill. I don’t know how to make this point strongly enough to convey my feelings but, how is it possible that a business can spend so much money setting up a business and then go about employing buttock clenchingly awful staff? PS. The wine was reasonable and quite nice at around 18 and the fries were good too.
Really great restaurant, wonderful service and food and it’s got a great location – perfect for when it’s sunny and you can sit outside. Well priced and a lovely varied menu – I can’t wait to go back already! thelifestylediaries.com
