Went with my sis and bro in law and their friends !! Good place to have a good time !! Good drinks wines!! Evening crowded!! But beautiful place to have a chilled out evening in London!!
Outside of my radar, I found myself wandering into the Larrick to celebrate a friend’s birthdayover the Larrick’s brunch menu.We pretty much had the newly refurbished bar to ourselves, enjoying a relaxed yet nicely polished environment. We sat along a long, wooden table with mismatched chairs and a chilled soundtrack playing unintrusively in the background.Service was always accessible but the one waitress pretty much left us alone except to bring the necessaries, and even bordered on rude in the matter-of-fact, stern responses we received. Anyway, she brought us our requests and that’s as far as you need to go really, in a gastropub. They have a small menu of cocktails, but I would recommend this as a place for beers, wine or G&Ts.They have a standard menu, but as a birthday brunch, I opted for eggs Florentine; two perfectly poached eggs with oozy centres that dribbled over the spongy bread and salty spinach, and mingled with the creamy hollandaise sauce. Whilst this dish was humble in size, there are options for the more stomach-spacious eaters. Burgers with a choice of additions and types of cheeses, a crispily battered cod fillet the size of my arm or agenerously-sizedfishcake served towering atop asparagus spears and drizzledwith a creamy sauce are all on offer.Strongly recommended for a chilled afternoon catch up with some easy-going people, or, to take advantage of their ‘children eat free’ policy over the weekend, a good place to take the family. londonismyplayground.wordpress.com
I visited the Larrik for the first time for a weekend brunch with some friends. It is a relaxed and friendly pub and as far as ambience goes, it was the ideal place to lounge around on a lazy Saturday without feeling the pressure of turnaround times, queues or rushed service. There were a pleasant amount of fellow diners on a Saturday, enough of a crowd to give an atmosphere and not so much so as to put us off. I imagine it is full of suits and business crowds Monday – Fridays. The place was also quite clearly family friendly with lots of children and young families present having brunch. A side room that can be closed off with a curtain was also visible, which may serve as a nice area to have a private dinner or celebration and the decor is simple but tasteful and warm enough to feel homely. So far so good I hear you say? Sadly, that’s where it ended for me. The food was a real let down. Actually, let me phrase it more accurately. I wasn’t actually let down as, to be honest, after reading the menu online in advance, I hadn’t had huge expectations in the first place. The menu is much too predictable – even if you are going for standard good old British pub fare, there is more that can be done with a menu to either jazz up the menu or to offer top notch quality keeping things simple. I didn’t feel they delivered on either. The piri piri chicken skewers were tender and well seasoned but the trio of sausage rolls was very disappointing – I found 2 out of 3 of them completely unpalatable. Similarly, I ordered a Caesar salad for main and have never found a Caesar salad I dislike but this one was much too covered in mayo and the smell of anchovy was over-bearing. The nachos, however, were worthy of praise – a generous portion (we ordered the larger size, enough for the whole group) and it was satisfying, a nice balance of toppings and was devoured in no time at all.I would come back to this pub for its comfortable and welcoming interior and service but would probably come just for drinks and find somewhere else to grab food, as the dishes here, whilst being entirely edible, are really nothing out of the ordinary, I feel. I must state though that the members of our group who ordered burgers and fish and chips seemed far more satisfied with their meals so if you are heading here for food, these may be amongst your better bets. whywasteannualleave.com
