Well just got back from a Christmas dinner here and it was massivly disappointing. The only reason i am giving it two stars is because the service was good and I have been here before and got a decent lunch. However I just got back 56 lighter and felt a little hurt at the price, the meal was 35 plus a few drinks and a 5.60 10% tip. I mean it is christmas and i do expect to pay about that much for 3 courses and drinks but it just hurts when you know you could’ve knocked up something better in a short while in the kitchen.Beetroot cured salmon & dill crme fraiche – Literally just that. No capers, not with a nice bread or some other tasty treat to contrast the fish, nothing, just 2 slices of salmon. The salmon was nice but really, so uninspired.Jerusalem & baby artichoke stew with slow roast tomatoes – Bland, light tomato flavour with a hint of chili but not reduced enough, no other flavours, hardly any seasoning and worst of all the potatos were undercooked and hard. Side of undercooked sproutsSteamed marmalade pudding & whisky custard – The best sish of the three but still very dull. The sponge was a little dry, funny when it was steamed. Perhaps with marmalade it doesn’t soak in as well as say a treakle sponge.Sadly a let down
Recently I’ve started to hang out a bit in Camberwell; partly because I live embarrassingly close so really should but also because there is this wave of gentrification in the area which has brought with it a handful of really great eateries. One such place is No67. Located in the always interesting South London Gallery, it operates as the resident cafe by day whilst morphing into a bistro restaurant by night serving a delectable seasonal menu with a modern European flair. My visit today was for brunch on a perfect weekend day for alfresco dining so we parked up in the front courtyard of No67. Surrounded by families, sunshine and armed with a fantastic coffee whilst admiring this elegant structure built in 1891, I couldn’t be more content with how the day was turning out at this was only amplified by the food to come. Classics like the Eggs Royale was template with a flawless poached egg topped with a rich and creamy hollandaise sauce. For a more serious appetite, I can recommend the Full Spanglish as a delightful dish worthy of any breakfast. The chorizo was my highlight and my only wish was that I had ordered an extra one because it was delightful. However the beans are delicious and just having them on toast (which is evidently an option) is also great. Finishing off with another coffee and a St John’s doughnut, I could think of few better ways to spend a weekend in the area and would suggest you make you visit soon. Go early however as you won’t be the only one thinking the same. Also follow me on Twitter @annixontong and @wetrykai and on Instagram @annixontong. wetrykai.wordpress.com
Beaut of a cafe right next to the South London Gallery.Pretty much a converted home crammed with tables, serving great coffee and a hearty breakfast. You might struggle for a seat at the weekends – we ended up on a bench in the back garden which was absolutely fine. The vegan beans on toast were way better than ‘vegan beans on toast’ sounds on paper. Pop into the gallery next door and you’ve basically got your morning sorted for you. Easy.
Disappointing meal. We went for dinner. We asked for chilled Manzanillo and were told it was, but it proved warm! Starters OK but one was very hot from chilli, which had not been advertised on the menu, and would not have been chosen if we had know. for main courses we had one good belly of pork, but two guinea fowl had cold cabbage that had to be reheated and the portion was a drumstick – very small on a guinea fowl! not a good experience.
This is the slowest place I’ve ever eaten. The coffee took so long it was cold! The staff seem to wonder aimlessly fromRoom to room. The hipster factor is surreal.i think I saw one guy with a spare tash on the side of his ironic face!food was nice but not worth the 50 min wait! Total fail!
Great sunday brunch. Best Breakfast I’ve found so far in and around Peckham.Great coffee too.
Best coffee I’ve had on this U.K. visit, food’s good too. Pleasing art-school ambience, excellent pastries.
