Great food and very welcoming. Popped in here for an early dinner recently as we are very soon moving to the area so thought we would check out the local places! I am surprised by some of the negative comments on here. We weren’t dressed for dinner, and don’t drive a porsche (!) but we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff who were very friendly, professional but not too formal. The food was absolutely delicious and we do eat a lot so have plenty of places to compare it too. It was a bit of a chilly day and were lucky to have a nice quiet table by the fire, and the guy behind the bar made sure that there was always a log on the fire keeping us warm. One of our main reasons for choosing an area to live was the availability of friendly places to eat with good food and for this The Fox gets 10/10. Also, I do have to say what a lovely atmosphere there was in there, with all sorts of different people just enjoying a nice drink and food. We will be definitely be returning here in the future once we have moved over that side of the Pennines!

Never Had a Bad Meal Here. We visit the Fox quite often, the food is always first class, as is the service and the atmosphere. Excellent value for money.

A fantastic place to either relax and have a few drinks and the food is fabulous! It is a great place to eat if you want either a special meal or just a midweek escape from cooking! Love the menu the specials are always a tasty treat LOVE the scallops! Always look forward to going great atmosphere!!!

A great evening out !. The food , excellent beers and wines are well researched to give an interesting gourmet evening out at very affordable prices. The friendly banter round the bar makes the place a good place to be.The noise round the bar can get a little loud, but that is because the place is so full! John keeps the place friendly and informal but likes to keep it as a nice place to take your family, so bad language people will not like it.Try it, you will love it.

Supurb!!!!. I cannot fault this place one bit! The service and food here is top quality. The roast beef on a sunday is the best around not even my mother could beat it and she’s a good cook! In addition, i’ve never felt so welcome anywhere else – this is why John Lumb has been so successful over the years! That’s a tribute to John and his team for working so hard. Every establishment has it’s little faults here and there i know but the fox is not in the slightest snooty. What you might not appreciate is that when a restaurant/bar is so busy you may need to wait a little bit longer. it’s called patience. The food here is worth the wait! Ed

Everything a village bistro should be and then some. The Fox has turned a cold restaurant into a warm, welcoming home from home (with much better cooking). All the staff are friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The menu is varied enough to be interesting and the right size to know that it will all be home-prepared. John has repeatedly created a vibrant, successful atmosphere in whichever establishment he has honoured with his captaincy. We are not a Porsche driving family and have always been welcomed: I am completely at a loss to understand why anyone uses a forum like this one to vent personal frustration rather than honest appraisal of an evening out.
