Vinea, at the Albert Dock, is a speciality wine shop and delicatessen, offering a fantastic selection of artisan cheeses, breads and olives. Located certainly in a stunning location, this accommodates a large shop on one side of the room, and cosy bar with sofas on the other, and doors flung open at the back overlooking one of the Albert Dock’s quays.Founded by husband and wife team, James and Karen McGrory, Vinea (which is latin for vineyard) is almost 10-year old. The restaurant has become so popular that you will find it difficult to get a table without reservation. We were lucky to get a table for four overlooking the quays.We ordered a selection from the tapas menu Prawn Pil-pil: Prawns fried in zingy garlic and chilli oil. This is a slight variation of the classic Gambas al Ajillo.Spanish Chicken: Chicken slow cooked in sherry, tomato and garlic sauce.Fillet Steak Strips: Prime fillet steak fried with onions and mushrooms.Patatas Bravas: Spicy roasted potatoes with Spanish tomato sauce and garlic mayonnaise.Catalan Toast: Fresh crusty bread toasted with a rich tomato and garlic topping.The Vinea Salad Bowl: Low fat roast chicken , mixed lettuce leaves, tomatoes. Cucumber, carrot, radish, onion, peppers and celery and a homemade fat free dressing.We loved all the dishes and ordered another portion of Prawn Pil-pil. The prawns, potatoes and fillet steak were the best among the lot.With a view of the impressive premier dock, great food (and wine) and service, Vinea is a not to be missed destination if you are in Liverpool. chompingchampion.com
