Turxican food does not work!. We first visited Chicos 10 years ago for my 21st birthday and the night we got engaged, so we were looking forward to another visit this weekend. We noticed the ‘new management and new owners’ sign as we went in and hoped it was still as good as it used to be.When I asked the waiter for a cocktail list he pointed to the ‘cocktail’ section of the wine list which just had names but no ingredients of cocktails. I paid 5 for what essentially tasted like Ribena. Looking at the menu, we were a bit baffled by the addition to the once entirely Mexican menu, of a large number of Turkish/Greek dishes. We are a couple who adore Mexican food and what they had called ‘Mediterranean’ food, but thought it seemed like a strange combination. To their credit, we were given some olives and garlic bread for free after we had ordered which were delicious but unfortunately this was the best part of the meal. I ordered (from a very surly waiter) what turned out to be greasy little patties of various vegetables and goats cheese (allegedly!) and my husband had skewers of mussels. Both dishes were average at best. After that, they brought my vegetarian Chimichangas which were so spicy that they were only just edible, and brought my husband Chicken Chimichangas instead of the beef ones he had ordered, so by the time they had brought him the correct dish I had got half way through mine.It seemed to us that they wanted to do Turkish/Greek food, but didn’t have the balls to change the menu completely so kept some token Mexican dishes. Sadly, they tried to be a Jack of all trades and the result was poor food which was pretty expensive. It wasn’t awful, but was disappointing, to the point where we thought we didn’t want to pay a fiver each for what would probably be a substandard dessert. Instead we went to Pizza Hut for a couple of slices of cheesecake for about 5 in total!!We’ll not be going back sadly – Chicos is no longer the great Mexican restaurant it once was! Instead it is a poor hybrid of two styles of cuisine that don’t belong together, exectued in a mediocre fashion.
