Sandgate is a picturesque seaside village tucked away between the ancient towns of Hythe and Folkestone in Kent. 829 at the boutique Sandgate Hotel, which is nestled amongst the antique stores and art galleries on Wellington Terrace, specialises in gourmet coastal cuisine and the restaurants sea views and modern cuisine attracts a diverse crowd of holiday-makers, local business types and yummy mummies. The refurbished 19th century dining room is decorated with designer wallpaper, fresh flowers and artworks by local artist Caroline Ashwood, and Head Chef Richard Bayliss has created a superb English menu. Favourites include the maple syrup glazed pork belly with confit tomatoes and baby gem, and the butter poached lemon sole with chive mash, asparagus and caviar cream.
