We had the most delicious lunch here, and the service was excellent. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The 2 course lunch is exceptionally good value and I would certainly recommend. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted better pub food….the chips are out of this world! The only disappointment was the car park. There are very few parking places and those that are there are extremely difficult to get in and out of, even for an experience driver. If the management could find somewhere else to store the beer kegs, that would help matters! So be prepared to park in the street, if the residents let you, and walk!
To be at the physical birthplace of Guy Fawkes, the modern day face of Anonymous, is itself a privilege and a treat. To imbibe a pint of Boltmaker with a steak pie is another. What a place. The menu is brief, but the food is topnotch. My steak pie was outstanding, whilst the haloumi with grape salad was inspired. So too the kids bangers and chips. Their basic pub descriptors don’t do this place justice.Replete with barrels from underneath the Scottish Parliament House, originally filled with gunpowder, now fallow, a knights armour in the corner, and an oak choristers portico, this place veritably oozes history.
