Great food and atmosphere. Nice interior, gets quit dark at night which gives if it intimate atmosphere. Food was delicious, had the small sea and egg fried rice. Cocktails quite strong but still tasty. Overall great place will definitely go again.
Whats Hawaiian food? Our dinner at Pond taught us something new. With a big community of Mexicans and Japanese, Hawaii has a very diverse and multi-cultural cuisine.Walking down Ponds alley felt a bit grimy, but you instantly feel the NYC industrial loft vibe once you enter the restaurant. Food was interesting but what really caught our attention were the cocktails (with funky names), as well as the Spam fries, which were surprisingly delicious. If we had to recommend Pond it would definitely be for drinks and nibbles. dontbelieveinjetlag.com
Located in a Victorian warehouse in Dalston, POND Dalston claims to be London’s first authentic Hawaiian restaurant.Unfamiliar with the area, I was initially a bit lost, but eventually found it as I walked down a hidden passage towards the warehouse.Personally, I haven’t tried Hawaiian cuisine before, so I can’t really judge it’s authenticity, so most of my opinions will be based on personal taste and experience from that evening. We started off with some cocktails at the bar. Unfortunately the Bento Martini was not available yet, so I went for the Luscious Lana’I which was sweet and fruity. I also liked the ‘A Dog’s Life’.There were two specials on that evening which we ordered – the guinea fowl and razor clams which were both tasty. One of my favourites was the white bait tacos – three small portions per serving, and great to nibble on as a starter. The okonomiyaki came filled with shrimp, spam and pineapple – not the best okonomiyaki that I have tried…The bulgogie was nice and tender, but everything on the plate just seemed very sweet. The sambal black cod was one of the dishes that I was really looking forward to, but to be honest it didnt quite live up to my expectations not spicy enough and overall pretty bland, and presentation could also be improved. The tonkatsu beef rib was really huge, and the meat was quite tender, and it came with garlic sweet potato and parsnip crisps on the side.On the whole, I do like the look of the drinks menu, and enjoyed the ones that I tried. The food for me was pretty average, and probably a bit pricier than you would expect for a place in Dalston…A pleasant experience, but not quite enough to tempt me back for another visit. dancing-in-high-heels.blogspot.com
