So, I pass Electricity Showrooms a lot in the evening and normally see a thriving bar, with music, a queue and essentially a bar/club vibe. I have even had drinks there on occasion. I like it, it has down to earth clientelle, made up mostly of locals.Having met a friend and wandered around Shoreditch, as usual, my stomach was grumbling. There are the usual suspects in the area for a roast like The Princess of Shoreditch, The Old Red Cow, Jones & Sons and a few more if you were to look at the numerous online guides on the web. Today I discovered a new talent, Electricity Showrooms. We wanted somewhere not too busy, so we went off Shoreditch High Street and discovered this venue which was a winner because as it only had five tables full. I had no idea there would be a roast on the menu, I just figured I was glad to be away from the usual Sunday masses around Shoreditch/Brick Lane etc. Upon seeing the roast on the menu, it was a no-brainer. I ordered half a roast chicken with the trimmings. It came with creamy broccoli on the side and a decent amount of gravy. The chicken was partnered with lush roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots and of course the obligatory massive Yorkshire pudding. I hate having to ask for extra gravy, as most places are normally stingy, but this was excellent it had its own little jug. Smothering this delicately roasted chicken was a delight. My companion opted for spicy chicken wings and fries she enjoyed hers, but I could see there was a bit of food envy.Electricity Showrooms was a nice little surprise and certainly deserves its spot on a list if the requirement is good food, a chilled Sunday vibe and reasonable pricing. cookandpour.co.uk
I really like this pub. It’s a handsome airy space and it is particularly lovely in the summer when all the big picture windows are open. Nice staff too. In the past, I’ve always been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here, so it saddens me to say last night’s order of bar food was a disappointment. We had chicken wings with blue cheese dip, fries, tobacco onions, and cauliflower fritters with habanero sauce. Wings were nicely flavored in a sauce consisting mostly of srirachi but skin was a little flabby. The dipping sauce did not contain very much blue cheese. A passable plate of wings. Fries were crunchy so quite good. The cauliflower fritters were horrible. Big soggy, grease soaked, cold, and tasteless. Somebody in the kitchen needs to rethink both the batter recipe and the frying temperature. The tart habenero sauce did not compliment the cauliflower at all.Tobacco onions were probably the best of our order. They came considerably later than the other food. So maybe the fryer had time to warm up properly by then. Not greasy and very smoky tasting due to being both slightly overcooked and a liberal dusting of chilli powder after frying. Messy to eat. We all had orange finger tips afterwards. They do have an interesting menu of sliders and salads, and I will give them another chance on the regular food. I really hope they do better next time.
