Excellent concept. Menu is limited but everything was perfectly executed and well priced. Not my favourite type of atmosphere as they aim to be buzzy and convivial. Music is a little loud and people raise their voices to be heard above it.We both had the flat iron steak for a tenner. I wasn’t worried about mine, because I like my steak rare. My companion ordered his medium to well done which can be tricky for this cut. The flat iron is a very flavorful piece of meat but not particularly tender. His steak was perfectly cooked with a little pink blush and surprisingly soft as well. The waiter commented that they manage to produce tender flat irons that are cooked almost well done because they are brined for 24 hours. The steaks are served thinly sliced against the grain which also helps with respect to tenderness. Expert handling of this cut of meat. The steaks came with zingy green salads of land cress dressed with a tasty mustard laced vinaigrette. I had the bearnaise sauce which was redolent with lots of tarragon. My companion had the horseradish cream which was pleasant too. Creme fraiche mixed with horseradish. Our beef dripping chips were good. Cut a little thin for my taste but very crisp, so fried at sufficiently high temperature. I wouldn’t order our other side of roast aubergine with tomato and mozarella again. Not unpleasant, but under seasoned, uniformly squishy and missing the punch of garlic or herbs. The house red at 18 a bottle was very nice. Dinner for two including service was 54. If we hadn’t bothered with the bland aubergine side a lovely steak dinner would have been just shy of fifty quid including wine and service which is a great deal.
Loved the concept, the food and the service. Menu is very simple, the steak of the day with a side salad. A few options for the sauce and most of all easy on the pocket. Service is great and staff is awesome
You know it’s good when it’s the only item on the menu! You gotta try this place if you’re visiting! And for sides, I would recommend the creamy spinach, Today’s market greens and the Aubergine! ABSOLUTELY YUM. Oh and take the waiters advice and order your meat in medium 🙂
