I don’t normally go to Huong, because it is more expensive than the places on Kingsland Road, and it is not a BYO. Granted, it is a much more pleasant venue than most of the places on Kingsland Road due to the luxurious interior, pleasant lighting and general ambience. Tonight it was handy to pop in for a quick takeaway due to its convenient location within the Shoreditch Triangle.I ordered the fried rice noodle with mixed seafood and the sizzling aubergine. Rice noodle was pleasant, with the acidity of the lime garnish contrasting nicely with slight sweetness. The dish did lack seasoning, because I wasn’t in the mood for the sweet nuoc cham that accompanied it. The dish could have done with some garlic too, for my taste. The seafood elements were squid, prawns and fishcake. They weren’t stingy with the seafood. Both the squid and prawns were tender. The tastiest element was the fried fish cake though. The sizzling aubergine was very good though the portion size was quite modest. Complex and chewy, but I couldn’t identify all of the flavors. It might have contained beef stock flavoured with star anise. I am not sure. Nicely offset by strips of slithery sauteed onion. I would definitely order this dish again.
