I’ve visited Milk Tea & Pearl twice. The first time I was unimpressed as my tapioca was undercooked. Today’s visit was much better! It’s a standard bubble tea but they do have some unusual flavours that you don’t see everywhere, like chocolate milk. An advantage – they don’t charge extra for card payments even under 5.

Milk Tea & Pearl is in a great location at the top of the Shoreditch Box Park where there is a large outdoor seating area overlooking the main street and you can comfortably sit with friends as long as you want. People sit here to eat and drink and Milk Tea & Pearl offers a great option of teas and smoothies to enjoy while you sit here.I tried their banana smoothie which is made with blended bananas and apples, which turned out to be a great mixture. They also offer a great variety of bubble teas and regular teas, you can choose the tapiocas and flavors you want and they prepare the tea really quickly for a pretty reasonable price.

As a bubble tea virgin I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Are they milkshake type drinks? Is it iced tea? Fizzy tea? Everyone I had asked about this bubble tea phenomenon was either a veteran or never managed to get around to trying it like me. So I thought I would give this bubble tea a try in Shoreditch’s Box Park. I ordered a relatively safe option with the strawberry flavour. It was a it strange, surprisingly nice at the start and sweeter than imagined. I’m still not completely sold on the bubble tea fad however I think I will definitely try it again, and give myself a second opinion. My friend who loves bubble tea had a much better opinion of the place and said that Milk Tea and Pearl was very good as far as bubble tea goes. So my advice may be not to base any opinions on my own and go and try it for yourself !

Ilove my bubble tea, its a gratifying favourite of mine having the best of both worlds of delicious tasting tea and dessert rolled into one.Milk Tea & Pearl is one of the places where it can deliver a good and bad bubble tea. When its good, you want to drink it until the last drop. When its bad you have to chuck away the watery no flavour beverage. They have two branches in London and I often frequent the Shoreditch boxpark one.I favour the fruit teas any day, with a wide of different flavours and different types of tea. You have good reason to come back for more. The fruit teas at Milk Tea & Pearl captures the real experience of Taiwanese bubble tea. The tea element is stronger without too many artificial flavours. The tapioca balls are super chewy with a hint of honey. Theres also those flavoured balls that burst in your mouth with juice. A bit like a gigantic caviar rolling inside your mouth.Milk Tea & Pearl is at Oxford Street and Boxpark. thefoodconnoisseur.co.uk

As someone who has probably tried all bubble flavours out there, I come in with high expectations. Perhaps therefore I was a little disappointed, but still there is a lot of cool drinks on offer. I am also glad that this trend is catching on. Try to ask for less bubbles if you don’t drink bubble tea so much, the pearls lose their charm after a while. In all not a bad place to come if you are in the area.

On opening day, with a fairly limited set of ‘teas’ on offer, I decided to try this fairly new trend of bubbles teas. Now I’m not a big tea drinker but I had to know. Since they only had a strawberry flavored one from the regular set, I picked that, chose to have it cold (hot strawberry?, I fear how that would taste), and with the addition of the tapioca pearls to it, I had my first sip.My first impression? It’s just a watered down strawberry milk with the pearls which didn’t add any flavor.Final impression? The same. There was no substance and tasted a little too watery.Would I go here again? Maybe. But only if I have a sudden inclination to try something like the ‘plain Assam and pearl’. couchcibo.wordpress.com
