My husband and I went for dinner during the soft launch as it was recommended by a friend. I ordered the chicken burger and my husband ordered the beef burger. We also ordered buffalo wings as a starter and creamed spinach and fries as side. As I am pregnant I don’t eat anything that is not cooked (i.e. lettuce, tomato etc.). Therefore, I asked the waitress to have my burger without lettuce, tomato and chorizo. My chicken burger was served burned, not slightly burned, but the entire bottom surface was black which my husband noticed as well. As I was hungry, I peeled off the black crust and only eat the filet. The bun was also too burned for my taste but my husband thought it was ok. My burger came with lettuce, tomato and chorizo which was not what I ordered and also we never got the creamed spinach. Furthermore, the starter and main came all together causing that the wings were cold when I started to eat them.I am quite disappointed about the quality of the food (in particular the burned chicken that I got and the fact that the food wasn’t served as we ordered) and would not recommend this place.
I unfortunately have to revise my mark downwards after subsequent visits. My first experience here was excellent but having returned twice I’ve discovered the cooking here is highly inconsistent. On our second visit I ordered the pulled pork burger but got a well done regular burger. Because the regular burger comes with bacon I don’t notice until I had eaten enough of it not to be able to send it back. Our third and final visit I ordered the regular burger medium rare. It came well done. Whats worse the meat had an unpleasant dense texture as a result of being overworked during patty making. Also rosemary fries were under cooked.**** first visit ********Excellent burgers. They are currently soft launching, with 50% off food until February 27, 2017.I had the blue cheese burger cooked to order medium rare. I’m always happy to find a place that has not succumbed to the food safety police and lets you specify a non well done burger. Meat was lean and had been coarsely ground. Lovely loose and crumbly texture indicating a light hand was used during patty making. Cooked on the grill at a very high temperature so well caramelized and not greasy. My best burger in recent memory. My companion had the chicken burger which had been deep fried. Meat was tender and succulent on the inside. The two of us shared a large salad with pear, blue cheese, candied walnut, pomegrnate seeds and balsamic vinaigrette. It was generous enough for two to share and it came with a large variety of salad leaves, including baby spinach, rocket and frisee. I would expect to pay around 8 in Shoreditch for salad this intricate. At full price it is only 5.50 at Number 177.The house red at 18 per bottle was not very nice. On a second visit we discovered that the house rose at the same price is very pleasant and quaffable. I would be very happy to pay full price (9) here for the burgers.
