It’s a good looking modern space. One of the Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsland Road where you could actually bring a date. That is, if your date cares more about decor than food. The best part of our lunch order for two was the green mango salad. Always happy to see this on a menu. Green papaya salads are ubiquitous but the more fragrant green mango is quite hard to find in London. Knife work was excelent with fine julienne of green mango, red chilli, a scattering of crushed peanuts and coriander. Though nice, I wish the herbal note had been more complex with some perilla or basil and mint instead of solo coriander. My companion liked the chicken satay but I did not. I prefer satay made with moister thigh meat instead of the breasts we were served. Cooked well being still tender, which is actually quite tricky for barbecued breast meat. Marinade was not flavourful and neither was the satay sauce. It was too much coconut, and not enough peanut, chilli and garlic for my taste. Pho looked pretty but was an utter disappointment. This dish lives or dies by the beef broth and this one was insipid. Meat was tender and of good quality at least.A light lunch for two with one large glass of white wine was 34. I think you can eat better on Kingsland Rd for this price, but maybe not enjoy the decor as much.
