Stopped for a late night but quick meal at Song Que Cafe after a show at Hoxton Hall They have a HUGE menu compared to most Vietnamese places in London, which makes it difficult to choose just a dish or two.Id had soup for lunch and ramen the previous day, so I opted for the grilled & shredded pork with rice vermicelli. He wanted the fried crispy noodles with chicken and a side of egg fried rice. They served us prawn fried rice by mistake and were ready to change it. But since I wasnt having the rice, he said hed have the one with prawns. For starters we had the crispy squid and since I didnt want coffee at 11pm, I eschewed my favourite Vietnamese drink and opted for the tender coconut in syrup which was fantastic!Amazing food. I need to go back to try the pho that they are so famous for. on.fb.me
This resturant is popular and easy to see why! They have a good range on their menu. I am a lover of pho so Pho ga is all i ordered! It was really nice and I enjoyed it loads! Only down side is that I feel the side herbs could have been a bigger portion as its for two people 🙂
This is the best pho I’ve ever tasted. Just try raw beef pho and im pretty sure you will come back for the second and third times. Moreover, the side dish made from beef and veggies is good as well
Good but not the greatestIts a really good price/quality reataurant but if you don’t like spicy food you better try another corner
I was expecting more for a Vietnamese place that is suggested by time out and normally is packed. Yes it is cheap but the food isnt great, its so and so. We ordered a non spicy shrimp noodles that was hot spicy (had to go back!) so then we had to order the duck with rice that was ok…
Watched rugby up the road and asked friends who has been in this area to take us to the best Vietnamese on this road famous for Vietnamese (ref: TimeOut). There were 5 of us on a Saturday night, but maybe cos it was a wet night the wait was not too bad. However we gave dagger eyes to this one girl that sat at a table of 8 by herself, maybe she booked ahead but still not the best look for a busy restaurant. We were seated at a table for 4 (in the middle of this long table, so no table-end seats) so three of us were a bit cramped but we are (kinda) skinny and just happy to get to sit down and eat!Our friend recommended the rice vermicelli dishes however I am not a big fan of really skinny rice noodles so I ordered pho with sliced rare steak, well-done flank, tendon & tripe. I also got a plate of spring rolls to start.I would say that the spring rolls here are hands-down the best spring rolls I’ve ever tasted. Fat rolls of top-notch crispy deep-fried pastry filled with minced pork. The slightly spicy & tangy dip also adds a good kick to my taste buds. The pho I would say was decent but not amazing which is a bit of a disappointment. The rice noodle was perfectly cooked with a firm texture and the rare steak was very yummy. The broth was just decent and the lack of vegetables made the dish a bit boring. My friend ordered the rice vermicelli with spring rolls equally loved the spring rolls but found the vermicelli a bit dry and had the same comment on the green-lessness.The service was fine, and the environment is what you would expect a cheapie Asian restaurant. However I would say this is borderline cheap eats as my two courses, iced coffee (delicious but on the stronger side) + tips came to just under 20.Overall – would I come back? Probably not as it is a bit out of my way, however if I did I would definitely stuff my face with those spring rolls again!
Hands down Vietnamese in London. Don’t waste your time with these hipster wannabes. Come get the real deal here. Got the varmacelli pork with spring rolls. Number 53 a think. Get it!
