Impressive Pho. Sitting in the middle of Pho mile, this is a more quiet and calm alternative, to the other louder places. Whilst the menu is not as varied as Song Que, I believe this is the best and most intensely flavoured pho in London. The chicken salad that we had with it was good but no opportunity to stand out. If booking a large group maybe try somewhere else but very nice for tete-a-tete’s.
Visit if Song Que is too busy. Song Que has by far tastier food but sometimes the relative quiet of Tay Do makes queuing just not worth the while. Tay Do does good, big bowls of noodles as well as banh cuon (a steamed meat filled rice roll which Song Que doesn’t do) and makes for a cheaper and more relaxed alternative to Song Que.
Friggin GOOD Vietnamese Food. Sometimes I think I make trips to London just to eat here…. fresh.. tasty.. and cheap… lots of more authentic vietnamese dishes available!
Fantastic restaurant good value for money, fresh food and great atmosphere. Menu list is huge and even the staff sometimes get a bit confused if asked for suggestions, so some research in advance is recommended. Every time I’ve been there I were not disappointed though. Real urban legend!
Favorite Vietnamese Restaurant in London!. I come from a Canadian city called Calgary that has 171 vietnamese restaurants for only 1 million people. Everyone loves their vietnamese there and goes on a regular basis. It would be most closely similar to Indian food regulars in London. So trying to find an authentic cheap and tasty vietnamese spot was one my list of things to do when moving to London.I had to look no further than my east end neighbourhood than Tay Do Cafe. Fresh, Delicious and great service. I am lucky enough to have gone there when it was not ridiculously packed and crazy. Lunch time is the best time as i usually go after yoga. Vietnamese food being very healthy, fresh and natural its the perfect compliment. The staples that I order are the fresh summer (salad) Rolls and the special pho noodle soup with rare done beef and beef ball. The real judge to any vietnamese restaurant is the soup broth. Tay Do does not fail as you know this broth has been cooking away for days. Any vietnamese restaurant that on every table has sriracha, hoisin and fish sauce is authentic to me. Thanks Tay Do Cafe, you win!
Surprise – great food at great prices and it’s packed…. Beautifully fragrant summer rolls, really vibrant green papaya salad with crispy beef and a Vietnamese pork/prawn pancake, which was a little bland in itself, but came with lettuce, mint, tangy dip to jazz it up suitably. We were stuffed already but shared a mekong catfish in caramel which came in chunks in a claypot with a gorgeously smokey, fiery, deep and not too sweet sauce. Lovely. Another time I’d like to try the grilled goat with vermicelli which was at the table next to us, the bun (pork with vermicelli), the quail and maybe even the frogs’ legs in chilli and lemongras to nibble on. Very sweet and attentive and quick service, which was commendable given it was never less than 100% full. BYO. Our food, which was too much really, came to 24 for two. Grand.
