Usually as a veggie I find that I often struggle to find a good menu for Chinese food with enough options – but that was definitely not the case at Drunken Monkey. I went for the veggie set menu which had more than enough different veggie options for me to try. The set menu portion sizes are huge, and in my opinion are a great way for you to explore a little bit of all of the great options this place has to offer. Also this place has happy hour between 5-7 with cocktails priced at just 5, which given its location in Shoreditch makes it a great place to eat and drink at before a night out – providing even more incentive to pay it a visit! 7/10 Okay service Good food Great variety ( esp for veggie food) Ideal place to catch up with friends in a group
This used to be a nice easy-going place for some dim-sum. The service has significantly deteriorated (most waiting staff don’t even speak english and can’t manage to provide service when the place is fairly empty); the quality of the food is slipping; there is zero mainenance on the furniture; and it seems to be out of stock of something every single time we go there. They also tend to bring you chicken steamed buns when you ask for pork. It’s time to seriously re-consider management decisions, staff hired, stock management…or close down.
My friend told me great stuff about this place and since I was on a holiday and it was a Sunday I was more than willing to try out a place in London that whipped up some Chinese food specially after all the different kind of junk food I had consumed in the afternoon that day. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with what they served, the portion size was great but the food was rather bland and for the price that we were paying it seemed rather disappointing. There was hardly a crowd and once we were done with dinner they quickly got us our cheque as they wanted to shut (this is even though it wasn’t closing time exactly). I have eaten authentic (almost) Chinese food and the different versions of Chinese food that is done back here in India but this didn’t quite live up to the experience. We paid something around 34 for what we ordered.
We went there on a Wednesday night and the place was packed! I’d recommend making a prior reservation. The place was all out of dumplings and there are only a few vegetarian options. I had the veg rolls and vegetable fried rice, both tasted good. There are only a few options outside of that.
The worst level of customer service I have ever experience. While the food is reasonable, it is simply not worth it for the treatment you receive. I went for a dinner with my girlfriend last week. Having tried 4 times to call and book a table, we decided to risk just turning up and (un)fortunately there was one available. The waitress had the most miserable face I have ever seen and provided no confidence that the previous reviews on poor customer service would not hold true. We ordered a large amount of food and a couple of cocktails. The standard of these was actually reasonable, however it was yet to go seriously downhill. On ordering our second cocktail we were provided with a slightly more upbeat waitress. Problem was, that the glass my girlfriends cocktail came in obviously had a crack or weakness as when she picked it up to sip, the bottom of the glass fractured and completely fell out, leaving her soaked. All the waitresses looked at her with no-one coming over to help despite at least 3 of them seeing. Finally after appealing for someone to help, the waitress initially said she’d replace her drink, well obviously, and then finally about 5 minutes later bought some towels. We asked for the bill soon after, with the manager not evening coming over to apologise with delivery of the bill then had the cheek to put service on top with no apology. The way they dealt with this situation demonstrates their clear ineptitude for service. Avoid at all costs!
Great venue with happy hour drinks 5-7 and good food at goodprices! Food ranges from dim sum, to noodles, ribs, squid and more – vast selectionto choose from. Decent prices (4-7 for a dish) and decent portions. Been here three times and have not beendisappointed.
Food Great service Shocking. I have been to this place several times now and every time the food has been great but disappointingly the service is definitely not to match. The bar guys have always been lovely but the wait staff always really rude and unhelpful. A shame they let the rest of them down.
