Last night my work colleagues and me were having drinks in their terrace when a group of bouncers came in and told us to go saying one of us had brought booze from outside, which I didn’t see. Once outside, one of my colleagues wanted to recuperate his bag he had left inside, so I said I was going to go to find it thinking I am a very diplomatic person I could get it and leave. When I explained that to the bouncer at the door, he was good with that and let me in. However, when I tried to explain it to the old blond bouncer inside she started to be rude to me and told me to speak in English to her. As you can see, I can write and read in English perfectly well and I don’t think they should be making this rude racistcomments to clients at all. I would recommend the pub’s management to reconsider hiring these bouncers again. I don’t think they need them.
Looking for a beer garden in Hoxton? The roof terrace at the Red Lion, just off Hoxton Square is a nice alternative to other better known venues like Queen of Hoxton. Inside its a bit youth clubby especially the third floor with table a football table, but it’s really all about being outside on the roof in summer. londoncurryblog.com
This place is a proper pub that just happens to be frequented by hipsters. And, apparently, they have a roof garden! I’ve never ventured up there, but have come here a few times to have some of the cheapest drinks you can get in the area. The place just feels like someone’s living room, which is what I like about it, all mismathed furniture, cosy and close, tall lamps and a fireplace. They haven’t succumbed to the trend of craft beers or biodynamic wines – you can get lagers like Stella and the wine tastes like the stuff you drink in Wetherspoons but it’s a laid back, non-pretentious place, a little off the beaten track. Worth checking out. jaminaward.wixsite.com
