Amazing Food & Friendly Staff. This has to be one of the best fish restaurants that I have had the pleasure to visit both at home and abroad. It has such an extensive menu from your basic cod and chips through to seafood platters served on an impressive bed of ice. Me and my friends had a wonderful time here. We were greeted as soon as we walked through the door and were served by attentive staff throughout our visit. The restaurant was very busy and there appeared to be many repeat customers (always a good sign) as the waiting staff chatted to customers as if they had known them for a long time.Starters include the most wonderful garlic mediterranean prawns, mussels, whitebait, and the biggest prawn cocktail ever. For mains course we had cod, monkfish, mussels, and skate. All were absolutely delightful. This may have been my first visit but it certainly won’t be my last.
Fish was off !. I have been to the Ark over the past years and have always enjoyed the food. But sadly the last couple of times that I went last year I was disappointed so never went back until 19th of July 2011.I was hoping on some improvements like it use to be many years ago ..We arrived around 7. 30 , it was quite full, only 3 or 4 tables left. We ordered Champagne as it was our wedding anniversary , I know its not the place to go for a romantic candle dinner, but after 31 ones years you really just want good food. The champagne arrived already opened in an ice bucket, no offer was made by the waitress to pour the wine.. She was friendly, took our order or prawn cocktail and one dressed crab, Halibut and skate wing, you could tell she was rushed off her feet. The whole Ark looks and feels more like a cafe , very cold looking open and loud. Our starters were nice, its not hard to get wrong, as no cooking is involved ..My deep fried halibut with chips was nice, but not the best cut, but nice and white as it should be. The Halibut and chips cost 22.00 . My husband loves skate and was looking forward so much for his deep fried wing.. It looked great with golden brown batter, but as he broke into the batter the most horrid smell of ammonia came out, it was grey not white as in fresh fish, yes it was clearly off ..The cook must have had a very bad cold, not to smell this before he cooked it, unless its frozen. We waited another 15 minutes for another to arrive, I had finished mine by then, but I did share..The second seemed over cooked still grey not white, dry and very tough..Very disappointing. The waiters and waitresses work very hard, and are all over the place, they are not to blame for the rundown, I believe it starts from the kitchens.. We were not charged for the skate, its a shame that we may never go back
Great seafood. Fantastic sea food platter. Not cheap but well worth the money. Shame they don’t take bookings as can be a lengthy wait at weekends, but believe me, the wait is worth it. Attentive staff and great food.
No matter what day of the week it is, it’s always busy in there! And for good reasons too! Food and service ‘jolly good eel’
