I’ve been here 3 times – with the same order each time (a simple beef pattie). The first time, the cashier was rude to me, talking on the phone while taking my order and hurrying me along. As I was leaving I overheard her helping out the customer behind me, and actually sounding happy to do it!I went back for a second time because really, why would I stop going somewhere because of one bad experience? The cashier was on the phone for ages, not serving me at all (which I understand, but then this place needs to hire more staff so they can manage the restaurant better. When she finally served me, I returned back to my office; however, when I arrived I noticed that instead of a pattie she gave me plantain. I went back to the store and exchanged it for a pattie – she did not apologise but she did exchange without any problems.I thought today, I would go back for a third time (third time lucky and all that..). Having waited a while in the queue (because the patties do taste good, although expensive) I reached the front of the line. At this point, 2 women – who had previously been sitting down – jumped up and shouted at me not to waste their time. The cashier noticed that I was affronted, and told me not to take it personally because they’re regulars and apparently funny. To which I replied, well it wasn’t necessary – they weren’t obviously in the queue so it wasn’t like I was pushing in. When I ask for my order, she says ‘oh you always use your card you never have cash on you’ – to which I was like ‘…yeah?’. Then she said it was 5 minimum spend, something she had never told me before, and then she tried to say she told me the first time I entered the store. She did not say this – she hardly spoke one word to me during my first trip there. She said this time she’d let me use card, and I was like okay thank you – you have never told me this before I’ll definitely bring cash next time. Then she actually didn’t have the beef pattie in stock so I was like ‘oh okay that’s fine’ and I left.Fair enough that the pattie was out of stock, that’s not the issue – the issue is that she has always been rude to me, and is never the same way with other customers. I am polite to everybody I meet but from the get-go she did not seem to be a fan. It was the same cashier every time, and I hope anybody reading this review opts out of the Jamaican Grillhouse. I will also be making a call to the manager – if she turns out to be the manager, I’ll complain directly to her.I do not recommend. If I could give it a rating of 0 stars, I would.
HALAL!. Looking at the place online and reading some reviews i thought why not give it a go. I wasnt impressed with the place at all with its back ally look and feel in soho. Despite the 1st impressions i soon discovered its hardly a restaurant. 0 service and its slap up food. However i did have buffalo wings as starters which was very tasty. Main course was rice and jerk chicken with alot of sauce all over. It was tasty with the crisp top well flavoured, but it had that taste it wastnt as fresh as i would have liked it to be. However it wasnt very expensive so got what i paid. Will i visit again? I will if im in the area.
I have been going to JC on and off for about 6 years. It used to be good but the last 2 years have been disappointing. It’s been worse since the refurb. The Jerk chicken is ALWAYS re-heated in the microwave. I’ve ordered it twice and had to send back twice. Jerk sauce is bland and not authentic at all. I usually order the curry chicken and I’ve seen it dwindle down to a bland curry colourless mess. After today’s visit I’m done with JC. Can’t do microwaved re-heated food. I won’t even comment on the lack of customer service but for a cheap feed, I don’t expect much.
No frills, no messing. Decent, authentic Caribbean cuisine, good portions and good value to boot.
3 of 5 – Decent Lunch. I had the Jerk chicken, which was decent. The sauce has a nice flavour, but overall I was not wow-ed by this place.
The meals are nice and the portions are big, but if you ever get chicken soup be prepared for more bone than chicken. Wouldn’t call it a restaurant either, it’s really tiny and the layout isn’t ideal. I try to go before or after the peak times of 12-2. If you go during this time be prepared to spend your whole lunch break waiting for your food to arrive.
Jerk city the best in soho curry goat dumplings yumyum
