  I have been wanting to try this place for a long time so I was really excited when we finally decided to visit. We had the mushrooms on toast, the tofush fingers and the tofush and chips. There was nothing special about any of these dishes. Standard pre-bought chips, boiled peas and a rather bland piece of battered tofu. The service was very fawlty towers. The girl in charge seemed to stand behind the bar texting someone and giggling at her phone. Even when we signalled or called her for a top up of water or to order something else, it took a good five minutes for her to see we needed her attention. Just as we were leaving, we saw a mouse run across the dining room. We reported it and she called the manager who apologised and told us next door had a mouse problem and that she was aware and keeping an eye out. She did very cheekily thank us for not making a fuss in front of the other diners. Even without the mouse issue, I don’t think I would eat here again. There are plenty great restaurants serving flavourful vegan food around London.

  I decided to try out Coach and Horses with my friend who’s vegan, after struggling to find anywhere that fell into two conditions 1) they had to serve vegan food and 2) they had to be open. First off let’s just say the food is a 4.5, it is some of the best vegetarian and vegan food I have had in London, and the fact their menu has extensive vegan options is a definite plus. We went for the pesto vegan burger with onion rings, which was the best veggie burger I’ve ever eaten out and about, and the vedgeree, which is kedgeree minus the fish with lots of other veggies thrown in (think cauliflower and edamame beans). We also went for two vegan desserts, the coconut panna cotta with poached rhubarb and a brandy snap was delicious, but slightly overshadowed by the mouth sensation that was lemon and basil ice cream. It was some of the best ice cream I’ve had this Summer and it was vegan…no words. We sat downstairs in the pub area, which was very casual but I like eating that way. The atmosphere was your typical boozers except there were no greasysteaksandwiches flying round.The problem I had was the mixed service. The end of our meal was fine buttwo of the barmaids who first served us were very inexperienced. One of which proceeded to tell my friend the reason why our cokes were mostly water was because we asked for ice, it had melted so the barmaid poured it into our glasses then gave it a top of coke. She got very heated when we asked her to change it, and it took another barmaid to step in and tell her off to sort the problem. Another didn’t know what the symbols on the menu meant, and every time we asked if something was vegan they had to go check. As I said we sat in the bar so upstairs in the dining room the service was probably a lot better. I’d definitely go back again for a pub lunch. Plus they let dogs in so it’s probably the best pub in London.

  On of the oldest pubs in town. This is a Soho institution. Great in the summer when you can stand outside.

  I was really looking forward to this pub as the menu looks great. I had the chickpea burger with chips. Sadly the chips were the run of the mill frozen chips you can buy in Iceland supermarket. The burger bun was dry and a bit uninspired. The burger itself was okay, tasted a little deep fried, but it just didnt taste as good as it looked on paper or on the plate

  Great vegetarian food, value and service. I have been vegan for some time but I hadn’t been aware of this vegetarian pub. It’s exciting to be invited to pass behind the busy bar, up some steps and find yourself in a lovely high-ceilinged room festooned with pictures of Private Eye journalists and welcomed by smiling waiters in aprons. Teashop by day, restaurant by night, there’s a relaxed, convivial ambience and a mixed clientele. There was a candle and a nice little vase of flowers on the table.My other half not vegan started with a raw lasagne with wafer thin beetroot which was very nicely flavoured he said it compared very well to similar non-vegan dishes. His main course was a falafel burger which he said showed the posh burger joints which serve up portobello mushrooms and call them burgers how it should really be done.I didn’t have a starter but I jumped on the tofush and chips as a main. As a vegan I hardly have battered anything, let alone anything like fish. This was a crispy package of tofu wrapped in a thin, gently aromatic seaweed, and I absolutely loved it. There was a big wedge of lemon to squeeze over the peas and chips, and best of all was the sauce, delicate creamy dill. I really savoured this dish I don’t know anywhere else that sells it.Then for dessert I chose a chocolate orange mousse. This came in a preserving jar filled half way with marinated pieces of orange, then a generous helping of mousse topped with strawberries and mint. It was lovely.We also had a good bottle of Argentinian red.We liked this place immensely and we’re going back soon. I do recommend booking.

  A vegetarian pub!. I’ve never heard of a vegetarian pub and this one was worth the visit. Friendly people and really great food. They have plenty of vegan options and you get all the comfort food you might expect from a pub without the animals on the plate. Just excellent. Oh and to get to the food, you just ask the bartender to be seated upstairs, then you walk through the bar, up the secret stairs and to a fantastic seating space. It’s pretty neat.
