Found YMing after hearing good reviews about it. The restaurant is cosy and the staff very friendly. We had a a set menu for 25 so we could taste different dishes. We prebooked as Soho gets busy especially Saturday nights. YMing is on the edge of Chinatown so it was left people traffic on the street which was a welcome change. Would recommend.
Wanted to try something other than Royal China. The food was cooked well and tasty, although some work on presentation would be great. The selection of food was good though.
6/10 For the food with bit weired service unlike a chinese restaurant. I went Yming on last friday evening around 6:30pm . It’s so light blue walls at the restaurant that you could find the restaurant from far distance. The service was unlike a chinese restaurant ,they are trying to be posh restaurant . It was weired and I felt uncomfortable. I asked a waiter about recommendation for the dishes, but he didn’t reply me stright away, so I picked two starters, two main dishes and two rice(for two people) .It costs us 60!! Too expensive for the dishes .The food was just average.I wouldn’t go back there in the future!! Avoid this restaurant.
Yming is a bit different to the other Chinese restaurants in Soho. Set back from Chinatown on the corner of Greek and Romilly streets it is without the usual decorations and accoutrements associated with the trade. The decor is uncomplicated and modern, and the ambiance is a bit like an upmarket family restaurant, where the owner Christine and her front of house man William know everyone and welcome them back as old friends. It is sedate, without the noise and hustle of nearby Gerrard Street, and you can sit down and relax with a glass of wine here in the center of Soho without feeling rushed to finish. In fact, unlike many Chinese restaurants, the wine list is as important as the food at Yming. There are many dishes on the menu worth recommending: The Empress beef, Mr Edward’s Pork, the Dongan Chicken, the Gansu Duck or the Tibetan Garlic Lamb. Main courses are reasonably priced for the West End, about 9. And if you want something special, book ahead a day and ask them to prepare a Beggar’s Chicken – a whole chicken baked in dough and delivered to your table as an aromatic loaf of bread that you tear apart and then shred the meat inside before eating. Wonderful!
Excellent Meal. My husband and I love the food at YMing. Very good quality and the service is very polite too.
Loved it – One of the oldest Chinese restaurants just off soho/Chinatown in the slightly more desirable Romily/Greek Street area of London. Food here was second to none with a very modern twist on some traditional recipes. Service excellent, definitely would eat here again!
Love this place!. A great selection of authentic tasting regional Chinese dishes. If you’re looking for greasy noodles and crispy duck, this isn’t the place for you.
