The Jazz Cafe is famous for music. From live gigs to party nights with DJs, music gives it its drawing power. Having visited there recently, you will be surprised to know that it is a bit of a dark horse as the food definitely has pulling power too.The food part of the venue is very low key, no major marketing for this. A little bit of an after thought really. Once you book online for tickets, you get the option to book a dining table with dinner. This is when you realise there is food. Of course, there is then the doubt that it will be any good, because its a music venue but get that thought out of your head. For those of us who are a little older and cant stand up for the duration of a gig, a table up on the balcony is a good call. Furthermore, enjoying some really good food is a plus.Firstly, lets talk about the service. The guys are sweet. The team who worked on our visit were really friendly. The Manager even stopped by the table to say Hi and check-on. Again, not what you would expect from a music venue. I think Jazz Cafe clearly wipes the preconception of mediocre food at a venue specialising in other things. They take as much care and attention as they do curated a calendar of musical artists and DJ themed nights. As part of our gig booking, you got to add an extra 20 per person to confirm your table spot and to add to your final food and drinks bill. The food is reasonably priced, so you can make a sensible decision on how much you want to spend to bump your bill up.The opening act was an order of chilli squid with sriracha mayo and burnt lime for me and chorizo, skirt steak, goats cheese and green chill taco for Sam Vanilla. It would be an understatement to say the squid was super. Not chewy, delicate coating, interestingly different mayo. Gold star. Sam V was impressed with her taco. Her fave place in the Mexican world is Wahaca and she firmly stated that they have major competition here. For the main act it was southern fried chicken, sweet potato mash with spring greens and gravy. The sweet potato had some secret ingredient which I could not put my finger on. Whatever it was, it was lush. Perhaps ginger? Sam Vanilla went for the ox cheek thai red curry with sticky rice. Interesting choice for the menu, as ox is not something so mainstream, but Sam loved this little joker thrown into the pack. The food was a-plus. The service was on point. Special mention to Shanice who took care of us.There was no room for dessert! The food was very filling and it was definitely a feeling of luxury having the comfort of a seat, great food and a unobstructed view of the stage performance. I highly recommend booking a table, yes for the view but absolutely for the surprisingly good food menu. cookandpour.co.uk
