Excellent seasonal food based on the quality of the product, very creative and delicate flavors combined in a beautiful presentation. The place is simple with an industrial look, the chef (originally Lebanese) just got his second star and he definitely deserves it!
Oskar’s Bar is the downstairs bar to Dabbous and is a sneaky way of trying some of the Dabbous food without having to wait years for a table. However, we didn’t do this, we just had a drink before heading off to other establishments. We went two other cocktail places that night – Crazy Bear and Lucky Pig but this one was my favourite. It exudes elegance but had really warm and friendly staff. I expected the prices to be sky-high but they were comparable to other cocktail bars, at about 10 pounds a cocktail. We were there as part of the Chambord challenge which meant we had one cocktail with Chambord and one of the signature cocktails – a ‘DIY’ cocktail, which we were patiently talked through by the bartender. Always helps to sit at the bar! jaminaward.wixsite.com
Booze. How best to tell it? I have puzzled over this for long enough now, allowing the depth of the experience to take shape, to form nuggets of story telling. Like, the one about the pewter tankard filled with tequila and topped with frothing Sierra Nevada pale ale. Yes, you read that right. The raggedy brazenness of such a blend is softened with the introduction of Slider (drink made from cider infused with gin-soaked sloes), elderflower cordial and acacia honey. Resulting effect? I nearly slid off my stool. The end.Another was a take on the classic julep, entitled Bulletproof incorporating greengage liquer that wends its syrupy way down through the crushed ice as a sub-zero serpent of sweetness. The bouquet that hits your nose instantly refreshes, taking the edge off the intense sugar hit.Read more at Culinary World Tour http://culinaryworldtour.com/2012/07/13/did-you-catch-dabbous/ culinaryworldtour.com
