  This is my favourite pub in London. So much so that I wrote a book set in it. The beer selection is far-ranging. They were one of the first to get the likes of Lagunitas in before everyone jumped on the bandwagon. Malty Browns, hoppy IPA’s and a whole range to suit all tastes. Sometimes the service isn’t the quickest, but it all adds to the charm, maybe. I like it best early evenings, and weekend days during the winter as its really busy in the evenings. Upstairs there’s is always music and they have a great selection of band poster art on the walls (avoid the pickled pigs if you’re squeamish)The food is delicious, Smoke and Roll have good choices and the smoked food is some of the best I’ve had. An American friend said that the Chicken Wings (enormous) were the best they’d ever had.An oasis tucked away from the craziness of Camden High Street.

• Gingle Lists Everything

  The Black Heart in Camden is exactly what you want from a Camden bar – loud, ROCK and busy. This place kicks it up a gear with some kitschy wall decoration – you know the thing, Mexican Day of the Dead type shrines lit up with neon and what have you.They also, for the moment, have Smoke n Roll in the kitchen serving up smoked meats in buns and ribs and wings. Take my advice – don’t bother with the ribs but tuck into the baked beans, coleslaw and pork roll. jaminaward.wixsite.com
