I would’ve never eaten here if it wasn’t because of the tv show Sherlock, and I’m glad I ended up in this small snackbar.I went with my friend, after a short while we got to sit in a table. The place may be small, but it’s PACKED, cheap and delicious. We had a Full English Breakfast, and an all-grilled Breakfast. We loved it. No complains. They also have sandwiches and they seemed to be very popular between people walking by. Something I want to point out too is that most people there were Londoners, not fans, which makes it obvious that the place is good, it ain’t just a fandom meccha.
Come here for the Sherlock fandom experience and for the hash browns and coffee!! London’s best hash browns that I have tried so far, Speedys has a menu not too different from other breakfast places (except that it serves lunch as well) and the regular appearances on the TV show Sherlock have made it some sort of a must visit place for fans. As for the ambience, it is quite crowded (of course) and there are frames of the actors that you may pass a smile at. The pasta collection is really good, you can even customise it. The coffee and the hot chocolate are amazing with their breakfast options. The mushroom omlette was a delicacy, according to my friend who had come along. If not for the crazy British cafe timings (it shuts at 3 pm), this place would be a great dinner destination as well! Kudos!
I would go to this cafe for the experience but not necessarily for the food itself, unless you’re interested in grabbing a quick, cheap bite to eat for lunch (they have a wide selection of sandwiches and salads) or if you’d like a greasy (but filling) fry up to start your day. My friend and I both ordered an English breakfast each and left clutching our very full stomachs! The fry up also came with complimentary hot tea, which was great as it was pretty cold on the day that we went.Speedy’s was made famous due to it appearing in the highly successful BBC Sherlock series (which is an amazing show, but only watch it if you have the patience of a saint, as they only release 3 episodes every year or so). The decor of the cafe clearly reflects this, with photos of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman pasted all over the walls.Whilst you’re eating, people will come in and out dressed in thick coats, deerstalker caps, and have pipes between their teeth, and it’s highly amusing to watch them in complete awe of their surroundings! In conclusion- come if you’re in the area and if you’re a fan of Sherlock. dimshum.wordpress.com
