Quaint little old Italian restaurant bang opposite the Waterloo station. Dropped in on a Friday for lunch. Authentic Italian food with reasonable prices and good proportions. Nothing very fancy about the ambience and interior but good food is what you are looking for then this is the place for you. Ordered a chicken in tomato sauce dish and clams spaghetti. For starters we got the prawns in garlic cream sauce. May not go again myself but will definitely recommend the restaurant to others. Vaibhav Kabra

How can an Italian restaurant not cook spaghetti?. I popped into Caprini on a whim to sate my desire for red meat. It wasn’t the worst move I’ve ever made, but I was expecting better, even for the price. I was served bread and butter while I waited, the bread being standard slices of a crusty loaf, and the butter being individual foil-wrapped pats, seaside B&B style. My dish of choice was the Bolognese , a simple dish that could be said to be the standard by which an Italian place can be judged. Oh dear. I’ve had worse, but the spaghetti was well beyond al dente and the sauce, while containing plenty of meat, wasn’t the delicate yet satisfying blend of flavours I’d expected, more of a nondescript, brownish-grey meaty thing. Like I said, I’ve had worse, but only in a greasy spoon for under a fiver. The staff were welcoming though, and just attentive enough, if not particularly cheerful, although my table did get wiped down almost as soon as I’d finished eating, while I was still sat at it (i’d only made a few crumbs from the bread sticks), which in my book is a serious black mark. You might as well just tell the customer off for making a mess. The ambiance was relaxing (if a bit time-warpy – it felt a bit late 70s/80s) and they have a cool 1960s staircase, but a restaurant can only be as good as the food it serves, when it comes to the crunch, and this place isn’t one i’ll be rushing back to, or recommending to anyone.

Very good italian–worth going. Had a great meal. Much better & more authentic than neighboring touristy places. Would definitely go back. Also a very good value for the price.

Super value Trattoria. Not expecting much as this immediate area around Waterloo is a bit grotty finding this restaurant The Caprini was as much a surprise as just plain good luck. A nice relaxed atmosphere with quality Italian food and wine at a very reasonable prices. With starters and mains for two with wine running out at 35 we were very happy and the quality of the food was terrific too. Much recommended we will return.

Good value & friendly, but don’t expect great food. We came as a family before the production of the Railway Children at Waterloo station. In summary, the high reviews we read beforehand weren’t reflected in our experience. Pros: – Location: Great for Waterloo (< 5 mins walk to station) – Cost: Pretty cheap for London (8-14 mains) – Reception: the staff we had were friendly Cons: – Food: Don’t expect much from the food. Salads we’re bland, garlic bread greasy/soggy and pizza was soggy & covered in cheese. Other mains were similarly basic.- Service: Slow – it took an hour to get mains and we said needed to leave in good time. – Decor: fine if you like 1970s. Overall, all you can really expect for that price/location, but we didn’t feel it justified the very positive reviews we’d seen.

Horrendous !!. I went into this restaurant on a whim after an afternoon at the Southbank Centre with my partner. Apparently it had good reviews !We should have known this wasn’t going to be good… it was the only place open on the main drag on a Sunday and there were only about 6 people in there at 7.00pm. The deafly silence was awkward and all you could hear were people’s cutlery scrapping across the plates .. great atmosphere ! Well what can I say… the starter of garlic bread was a burnt french stick which was garlicy..how can you get this wrong.. apparantly you can.My main.. pizza was wet… with thick greasy cheese all over it nothing like I have ever seen in an Italian…. from a kebab shop after a night on the tiles in Crete yes but not an Italian restaurant. think it was a pre bought base as well…it was disgusting, the worst pizza I’ve ever had. My partners bolognaise was a very small portion and the meat used was not of good quality.. it had gristle in it and was very dry. Very easy dishes but again how can you get it so wrong ! We were asked if our food was o.k. and my partner just said yes as he wanted to pay the bill and get out of there.. without causing a scene, especially during what seemed like a sponsored silence. People if you like good food.. do not go here.. it its really bad.. the worst place i have come across in a long time !

A Good Local Italian!. An unpretentious local Italian. No table cloths and paper napkins – but a warm welcome, clean tables and good food, pleasant wines, good value for money with lots of Italians eating in the restaurant. Being local to Waterloo there is inevitably a lot of passing travellers using the restaurant. Much better than many other restaurants in the area!
