I visited the Waterloo bar and kitchen during an event so we had booked the downstairs room all to ourselves. While the upstairs looks like a lovely restaurant we were all pleasantly surprised to find out about the second room, which can be used for all sorts of private functions. There’s a small bar where you can order beer, wine and cocktails and there is even an option to put on your own music through an iPod or iPhone. The ceiling is a bit low though so I am not sure whether quite tall people would feel comfortable down there and it’s probably not suitable for dancing. We also had the chance to sample some canaps, fried shrimp, spring rolls and sausages, which were all delicious. That makes me excited to back and try some of the restaurant food to see how that compares to it. Overall I think it’s a nice venue for hire and you can have some pretty good events for 30 – 40 people. darcrose22albionadventures.blogspot.com
Having worked in Waterloo for over 3 years, I am surprised that I have not tried this restaurant before. Situated right next door to the Old Vic Theatre, it can potentially suit many occasions. We booked for a Tuesday lunchtime for a work colleagues birthday. It was very quiet, with only 3 other small tables seated at 1pm. So when 7 of us arrived, it certainly livened up the restaurant. Greeted by the lovely waitress Vita who took our drinks order. I went for a ‘Bubbles & Spice’ – a winter cocktail made with cinnamon syrup, orange zest and prosecco. A great start to my meal. Under a bit of time pressure to get back to work, we all decided to skip starters and go straight to mains. I decided on the Pan Cooked Smoked Finnan Haddock with Bubble & Squeak, Soft Poached Egg and Hollandaise Sauce. It was a great dish. The Haddock was cooked perfectly and sat nicely under the poached egg, which once split open, yolk slithered all the way down to mix with the hollandaise and bubble & squeak. It was a wonderful thing!!!I tried a little bit of my friends main of Slow Roasted Confit of Duck Leg with Colcannon and Port Jus. It looked amazing and certainly tasted as good as it looked with the duck so tender and fallen of the leg bone. May have to take a trip back to endure the whole dish. Dessert was a 2 horse race between Apple & Blackcurrant Crumble with Custard and the Creme Brle. After 2 minutes of deliberation and a patiently waiting waitress, I decided on the Creme Brle. It went down a treat and finished off a lovely lunch. Overall, I was impressed with the food and the service and would happily return for that Duck main. The restaurant was very quiet and the toilet facilities were not entirely great, so those were the only negatives.
Situated around 10 min away from Waterloo tube station, the Waterloo Bar & Kitchen is a disant British restaurant. When you enter the venue, you get a quick feeling of style, authenticity and British Culture. This also can be recognised by all the British fancy cuisine the venue is offering. When I went there, I remember I ordered a grilled spicy sea bass with prawn rice. It was quite delicious and it was stylishly decorated which was quite impressive for a normal restaurant. The service was excellent and I believe me and my partner spent about 50 on food and drinks.Although it is maybe a bit expensive, the visiting is worth the price!
5 Stars across the board!. Fantastic! I had the Fusili with asparagus, and my mum had a chicken/mash dish which were both perfect! Great portion sizes. We also had the apple and blackberry crumble with custard which was also amazing. The service was outstanding, our waitress offered my mum a yorkshire pudding as she has never tried one before (we’re from Australia) so that was incredibly friendly!! And she even googled restaurants for us to see if there was somewhere that did a Sunday roast during the week! Everything was outstanding and we were blown away.
Lovely this place. Nice and unpretentious setting. Away from the station enough that it isn’t loaded with tourists. Excellent food, with a changing menu. Definitely one to try.
Finding a decent restaurant that’s very close to a train station can be a bit of a challenge as it’s easy to fall into the arms of large tourist traps so I was delighted to manage to nab a Friday night reservation for this place with just a few hours notice for 3 of us. When we arrived, the place was heaving and we were glad we booked. It’s very bustling inside and being right next to the theatre, we were fairly sure we spotted a celeb in there as well! The service was friendly and as it was a Friday night, we went all out and went for 3 courses. I opted for goats cheese, red onion and fig tart for starters, followed by a spicy Thai style sea bass with prawn and spicy coconut rice – this was absolutely delicious! I probably should have stopped at that point because the portion sizes, though not huge, were sufficient to fill us but gave in to temptation to order the apple and blackberry crumble. I must admit, this was a little disappointing – the fruit itself was great but I found the crumble topping a little bit hard and clumpy, usually preferring my crumbles to be a bit finer. The service, while quite prompt at the beginning, slowed down a bit towards the end of the night, I suspect because it was quite busy in there but we had to chase up a few times for orders of drinks and dessert etc. Overall though, I enjoyed it and would happily return. whywasteannualleave.com
A Fantastic Private Dining Experience. My friends decided to throw a surprise Birthday meal for another friend, and we chanced upon Bar and Kitchen and their downstairs dining room. We were able to decorate the room and request songs, and my friend was blown away by the experience! The staff were really helpful and accommodating, especially for a vegan member of the group. Afterwards we all made the quick and easy journey to Waterloo station which was pretty much across the street!
