One of the best Italian restaurant in the city! I came here with my boyfriend a few months ago and we had pasta and orata. Portions are good and rich and food taste very good. Prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is very old and it might need a small renovation:) staff is very friendly! I Recommend it!
There are some ‘ristorantes’ that are so traditionally Italian that out of nowhere they bring forth from somewhere deep within a dodgy, cliched Dolmio family-esque accent. You know the one…. ‘A-SPAGETTI BOLONESI PER FAVORI!’Luigi’s is one of those, and I love it for that. Nestled in a quiet road off near Finchley Road’s John Barnes (Waitrose named after the footballer who opened it, true story) from the moment you’re greeted by the waiters in their waistcoats and led to a linen-covered tablecloth under photos of celebrities, you can’t help but get in the spirit. Hell, there’s even breadsticks. The food almost matches the charm of the decor – mixed antipasti delivered salty ham and soft mozzarella, juicy olives and other treats. For mains, we both went for spaghetti pescatore (being big fans of seafood) and when given a choice between a tomato based or white wine, garlic and olive oil based sauce we chose to try one of each. Both were absolutely huge portions of steaming pasta brimming with mussels, prawns and squid and were excellent value. We both agreed that although the tomato sauce was great, the garlic version won the battle.A cute local restaurant with better than average food, it’s a clear winner over the other bland italian chain restaurants in the area – worth a visit.
