Living in Kilburn, we’re actually spoilt for choice with great quality, cheap restaurants and takeouts. Little Bay, Spicy Basil, Ariana II, Tiffin Tin – all in spitting distance. But Mr Lee is literally 2 mins walk from our house, so we were thinking it would be too good to be true for it to be a good Chinese takeaway.Pleasantly surprised then that 7 months later, with a visit every few weeks, its sealed the deal as our go-to place when we want no-fuss, affordable, filling grub. It’s not amazing quality (if we want that, we get Good Earth but pay a tenner more each), and yes you have to collect, but it’s consistently good and does what it says on the tin.The crispy duck was brought home still crisp (not always the case, and there’s nothing worse than soggy duck) and tasty, special chow mein was packed full of meat and prawns and had the right salty tang, the beef in black bean and sweet and sour king prawns were also decent. And it’s family run as well… love a good local.
Mr Lee is a lovely little family run restaurant which we have used since I was a child. The food is delicious and the staff are so nice, that even if it wasn’t the nicest Chinese Restaurant in the area (it definitely is the best in the area, by the way) I would still go there for the service. They are one of the only places I have ever ordered from that can prepare tofu/beancurd that doesn’t taste like bland rubber but like proper food; and the sell the best curry sauce, so we sometime just go in and buy some chips and curry sauce.I recommend this take away to anyone in the area who is hungry and doesn’t mind going in to pick up their meal, as the only downside to Mr Lee is that they do not deliver.
