This is a very nice pub in the back streets of Kensington. I always find the walk to it is puts me in a good mood because of the lovely houses and mews on the way – I tend to walk from Imperial College.Back to the pub, it’s got a home feel to it with different sized tables and comfy armchairs to snuggle up in during the winter months. There’s also a small outside seating area for summer. The food is delicious, I’ve eaten there a few times and can recommend the burger if you’re in that kind of mood. If you’re for something a little more adventurous but still staying within the traditional english pub food, the fishcakes or the ox pie are well worth a try. For pudding, don’t look past the salted caramel and chocolate tart! It’s very good indeed. This pub’s also good for evening drinks. Friday early evenings get a good show of numbers and there’s always a cheery crowd in there.Overall I strongly recommend you pop by if you’re in the area!
The Builder’s Arms is a quaint little pub set amongst the back streets of Kensington. It boasts a charming, cosily decorated interior (including upstairs lounge), and a beer garden to be enjoyed during the summer months. It has a jovial, lively atmosphere in the evenings and can get very busy – although it is still less crammed than its sister pub, the Queens Arms, which is just up the road. The staff are friendly, down to earth and always happy to have a chat.It serves simple yet high quality pub food, with emphasis on local and seasonal produce. For the veggies amongst us, they always offer a couple of delicious meat-free alternatives.
The food really is pretty terrible. It’s hard to get a burger wrong, but they truly managed it! Burger was tiny, didn’t even nearly fit the bun, was dry and tasteless. The staff weren’t particularly friendly or helpful when I was trying to have my birthday drinks there, however the atmosphere of the pub is really nice, and it’s great if you can get one of the tables outside in summer. Don’t go between 6 and 9 on a Friday night though as it really is uncomfortably packed.
