Crazy Italian restaurant – good food and crazy waiters – perfect for a rowdy birthday party. Great Pizza, lovely decor and nothing is too much trouble.
A busy busy italian, with a very lively feel. Sometimes it can be very overcrowded. But on the whole a great place for a night out with friends and feel like your on holiday!Food is good and the waiting staff are characters.Expect a good time and good value for money
The spirit of this place is what keeps me going back time and time again, well, that and the calzone. The BIGGEST AND TASTIEST ever, brushed with garlic and filled with cheese and ham (if you choose). You can get it in whatever size you like too, one for the whole table. It’s sensational. The staff are friendly, even dancing with you on a Saturday night (if you’re lucky) and will always end your meal with a limoncello. It doesn’t get better than that!
Fantastico very good cuisine the pizzas are a must.Traditional stone bake clay oven and very Italian family atmosphere this is a must if your in the area, and it’s so reasonable and easy on the wallet
We went to Al Forno last night for a friend’s birthday. I had only been once before, many years ago, and had never returned despite being local – which I guess speaks volumes about that first experience. We weren’t a huge group last night – just five of us – and we had a pleasant enough time – although how much of that was down to the restaurant and how much was due to the general conviviality of a group of friends celebrating a birthday is difficult to say. Whilst the service wasn’t downright rude, it certainly wasn’t overtly friendly, and the food was OK – nothing more nor less than you’d expect from an Italian in that price bracket. And although I like music whilst I’m eating, having 2 Unlimited blasting out over dinner does not create atmosphere. We stayed late, and in fact were the last people in the restaurant, so whether or not this annoyed them in some way, I don’t know, but we were talking and laughing and since nobody even asked us if we wanted the bill we didn’t feel under any pressure to move. When the bill came we split it and handed over our 3 credit cards somewhat absent-mindedly, still engaged in our conversation. It was only when one of our group asked if we’d checked it that we realised something was awry. Looking down the hand scrawled page we found an item entitled Bar at the bottom for which they were charging us the grand sum of 123. Now, this apparently included 5 desserts (at 5 each) as well as drinks, but this had not been a heavy night: 1 bottle of wine and 5 beers between us. When we asked for some explanation the manager came over with his calculator and tried every way he could to make the numbers add up – saying bar slips were missing, that we’d had more beer, more wine, but eventually he had to concede that our bar bill had been more or less doubled. A total bill of over 200 was suddenly and dramatically reduced to around 130. There was no explanation and, much worse, no apology. Our payments had already gone through and they refused outright to refund us all individually and re-process the entire transaction, or to refund what we had overpaid in cash so that we could split it between us. Instead they refunded one card in full and told us we’d have to sort it out ourselves. They then demanded the 10 balance in cash. I am not a cynic. I like to see the best in people. Instinct tells me, however, that had this been a genuine mistake, the manager would have been embarrassed, not to say mortified, to have so drastically overcharged customers. Instead, the surly and unapologetic way in which this was handled was the attitude of someone who must begrudgingly accept that they have been caught red-handed trying to rip someone off. Needless to say, I won’t be returning. If the food were amazing, I might have cautiously returned, but since it’s not, I won’t. I don’t need the hassle of going through my bill with a toothcomb at the end of a meal.
Brilliant with the family. Have been numerous times and think the service is great (very friendly and quick). Food is good and we will keep going back.
If you can get past…. The quick and easy review:Pros 1) Very good portion sizes (Large pizza is 1 meter long)2) Quick to serve foodCons1) Service is terrible. Not friendly, they forgot our drinks and it look us yelling at the chef to get our bill.2) Uncomfortable. Very crowded and they refused to turn off the excessive heat lamps on the enclosed porch3) Pizza could use more toppings.Good restaurant if you can get past the service and the cramped quarters.
