This new fish and chip restaurant in Wimbledon was under construction for months, so its opening was certainly an event I looked forward to. The restaurant itself is very well designed, clean, and with a traditional feel – the serving hatch for takeaways and outside eating is a particularly nice touch. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre, portions are small and prices exorbitant; 12.75 for a ‘large’ cod and chips that would be a small cod and chips at most other chip shops is incredibly poor value. The chips aren’t great, and taste like deep fried oven chips, and the fish is distinctly average; but what might be acceptable for 6-7 is certainly not acceptable for almost 13. I was left with the feeling that I was paying not for the quality of the food but for the lengthy refurbishment of the premises and gimmicks like fish served in boxes rather than paper – not something I’m a fan of anyhow. If you want decent fish and chips in the Wimbledon area then go to Adam’s Fish Bar – better quality food and far larger portions at about two thirds of the price.
