How much do I love Oki?I was working in Wimbledon in August and after trying it the first week I went there every week for lunch. Sometimes twice. The food is really delicious and reasonably priced for the area. It’s quick and unpretentious. But it really is all about the food. A good mix of freshly prepared sushi, sashimi, bento and noodle dishes and their prawn tempura is to die for. Seriously, if I could get a delivery from them now I’m not working in Wimbledon they’d be on my speed dial.If you like Japanese food then do yourself a favour and visit when you’re in this part of town…
An average Japanese/Korean restaurant if you want a quick and simple meal. The noodles are usually good. I wouldn’t recommend the sushi or the shrimp tempura. Simply put the sushi is substandard – you can do better at any of the refrigerated pick and go sushi places. I made the mistake of ordering the shrimp tempura once and after the first bite had to put them away – they hadn’t taken the poop shoot out… I checked all the rest of the shrimp and they were similarly ‘poop-full’. I thought it was only with the larger shrimp in the tempura but it’s the same issue with the smaller shrimp they use in the noodles. Bottom line – stick to dishes without seafood!Never tried the Ramen or the bibimbap but see a lot of others having it. Note to the chef: if you’re going to serve shrimp you need to put the effort into removing the poop shoot – that simply cannot be excused!
My word where do I start! I ordered a take out online for a collection. When I took the bag home they had half filled the order and had added items that were not mine. I called the restaurant and explained the order was not correct. They said they could not deliver the correct items because they were too busy. The manager suggested that some of the items were the same value as my order so I could eat those instead. Not willing to amend the order I took it all back for a refund. The owner ordered the waitress to refund me and said something in Japanese to her that made her look utterly ashamed. I’m not sure what he said but you don’t treat your staff like that.
It looks like it might just be a sushi takeout, but grab a table in this Wimbledon sushi place for some excellent maki. If you order one thing, make sure it’s the Dynamtie Maki, perfectly crsipy and spiced rolls. We ordered a TONNE of food and not one thing was a dud. The only downside really was the long wait for food, so make an evening of it and settle in. hellofarrah.com
Love this little place! I’ve only been a few times with friends but each time I visit I love it! The food is delicious and very well priced. I would easily say its the best Japanese restaurant in the area.
Wimbledon desperately needed some Korean food and I was so excited when Oki opened in the neighbourhood last year. The menu is large and includes a variety of popular Japanese and Korean dishes along with daily bento specials. I go to Oki mainly to satisfy my spicy Korean bibimbap cravings. I highly recommend the Dolsot Bibimbap with extra spicy sauce – it is fabulous. I’ve had the sushi there as well and it’s nothing to rave about but is fresh and does the job. The service at Oki leaves a lot to be desired. It has always been poor as there is usually only one server managing the entire floor causing unnecessary waits and delays. The food is great though, especially the Korean menu! hungryaphrodite.com
