Great Food, Great Price, Sour Atmosphere. Dined at L’auberge recently and found the food to be fantastic!! Excellent prices and very authentic. Both the wine and the main meals were divine. The owner/waitress was fantastic up until the point where she started insisted on interrupting and getting involved in our dinner conversations and assumed her opinion was superior to that of my partners- this became a little overbearing. Although the bill was a steal, the atmosphere definitely changed because of this, so we might stick to takeaway from now on- After all this was supposed to be a nice quiet meal and not an episode of daily politics.

Well thought, well prepared and delicious French cuisine. Recommended by Michelin guide. Opened Tuesday till Saturday after 7pm. 3 course menu at 17. Atmosphere is very cosy. I have tried the take away several times, which was excellent and nicely presented. Assiette du Sud Ouest is outstanding as many other dishes. Don’t leave without trying the chocolate fondant, you won’t get enough of it. As for the bill, the value is unbeatable.

Shhh dont tell everyone, or you’ll never get a table. We found L’Auberge by chance, trying to find somewhere to eat before seeing a movie at Wandsworth, and it was a very happy accident. The restaurant is very much ‘homely French bistro’, both in the style of the cooking and the restaurant atmosphere. The food is varied, and there is something for everyone, and I have never had a disappointing meal in the year since we discovered L’Auberge. They offer a number of menus for all budgets (including an Express for 10) but best of all is the monthly gastronomic menu – usually around 25 for five courses.L’Auberge is run by Pascal (a trained pastry chef, so his desserts are to die for), and his wife runs the front of house. The only criticism I could offer is that drinks are a little pricey, but if you’re choosing one of the value menus, you should leave having spent around 50 for a lovely meal for two.

Bad manners = no booking. We had been meaning to visit L’Auberge, often lauded as a ‘hidden gem’ of Putney for a very long time, but didn’t even make it as far as the reservation stage. I called in at about 6pm on Valentine’s Day, admittedly a busy time for a restaurant, to make a booking for later on that week. After being attended to by one member of staff, I was called aside by another (possibly the proprietress) and was told very rudely (complete with wagging finger) that I could not make a reservation in person but must phone. The other member of staff had just emerged with the reservations book, but she wouldn’t let him take my reservation.Doubtless to say, we will not be risking a booking at the restaurant. Seems a shame, but I can’t imagine that this showed them in a good light to all of the customers eating at the time.Avoid.

Just good. Good food, good service. Great wine and deserts (chef is an expert pastry chef). But it’s overpriced for what you get. I could recommend other restaurants in Puntey that are cheaper and have equally as good, if not better, food.
