This is without a doubt the worst fish and chip shop I have ever bought from. I got chips here on two occasions, the first time they were stale, shriveled slightly, and there was a vague aftertaste from the old oil. I had them late in the evening so I thought it was just bad luck and timing.Gave it another go at lunch time on a Friday, but not only were the chips so stale this time that it was actually impossible to chew through them, I also found a thick black wiry hair in the bag. I just pray to god it was from someone’s beard. Unfortunately I was already on the bus when I found it so couldn’t get my money back. Stupidly ate around a quarter of the bag before giving up, when I tipped the chips into the bin, there was this congealed dark brown ….gloop…. at the bottom. It smelt a bit like oil, but not as you know it. I didn’t know oil could become that. I would have been happier never knowing that oil could become that. Spent the rest of the day off sick with a sudden and mysterious stomach bug. This was actually in 2011. I was prompted to write this by a friend wanting to grab some Scampi from them when we passed by; the ensuing flashbacks reawakened my rage. It’s the passage of time since my ordeal that leads me to this disclaimer, they may have changed hands or fired people…. So if you have some sort of unquenchable addiction to fried fish that, at the exact moment you pass this shop, has to be fed, then give it a go. On that note, I knew someone who regularly ate Saveloys there, which were apparently lovely….
