Doggett’s Coat and Badge pub is a cute little place right next to the river. Having gone for a walk along the Thames, starting from Tower Bridge, it was a good spot to stop off and have a beer. It is cosy and warm, with TV’s which no doubt shows sports during the season. There is an element of open plan, but also cute corners for couples. What it also boasts, is that it is an original gin palace with 142 years of botanical heritage. As a gin drinker, this is super interesting, but as it was a quick stop off during out walk, I didn’t opt to try the juniper delights on this occasion. I will be back to check it out though. cookandpour.co.uk
This is one of my go to pubs when I want a chilled drink by the river all year round. In summer they put out seats next to the river and the beer garden at the back is open. The beer garden may also be open sometimes in the winter with heaters so that people are warm. Even without that area though there is always a lot of space to sit as the pub has several floors and you can have a view of the river even when sitting inside. The back are has leather couches along the walls and there’s a separate upstairs dining room as well as another floor that you can book for private functions.Considering all these different areas and the number of people that could be there at the same time I have to say that the pub does get quite busy at times. It becomes more apparent when everyone is trying to order from the same bar that usually might have only two or three people serving and it can take a while. But they do their best to get to everyone fast and also be quite friendly and nice so I personally don’t mind the wait. The drinks selection is quite good, with several craft beers and ales along with the usual brands and the food is pretty decent. This is definitely my pub of choice in the area as it’s easy, convenient and there’s always space so if you are looking for a place it may be worth checking it out. darcrose22albionadventures.blogspot.com
The real hit of this place is the view and the ability to have private functions in the upstairs rooms. I stopped by while strolling around South Bank following the crave for a Sunday roast. It was good, a bit bland, not exceptional and with quite a slow service even if the main room was mostly empty. Not the place I will go back to if I have a choice, but not too bad as a last resort.
I went here for a big group event so the organiser had booked out one of the event spaces, there was another larger event going on above us that clearly got all the staffing and care.I think the one big plus of this was the view and thats about it.We had one bar in our area and a group of about 30 people, the drinks for the area are a little pricey but you deal with it as it is Southbank. The food….It seemed that when I finally managed to get the bartender to come back to the bar and not sit out the back with his phone everything I wanted had run out, so he suggested a burger which I agreed too and placed my order, when it finally arrived it really wasn’t worth the 11.95 price tag, it tasted like it was cooked about 5 mins prior and just slapped on a bun and brought out to me.The chips were almost freezing cold and when I went over to complain the bartender yet again was M.I.A so i gave up and just ate the burger before that went cold too.Overall if someone invited you here just politely decline. My beers cost 5 and with the 11.95 burger I wasn’t impressed, if I had been here for something else and not an event I would of left early.
