The Ring is a pub just opposite of Southwark station covered with boxing memorabilia, as a tribute to the Blackfriars Ring boxing arena that was destroyed back in the day. The pub’s decoration is actually very cosy and the staff are very friendly. Unfortunately, this is one of those pubs that gets absolutely packed during ‘after work hours’, however, it’s worth a visit!
When Big Apple Hotdogs are in town any place they occupy becomes a must visit. The ring, whilst a nice, little drinking pub when its quiet gives the sense that it could be manic at 6pm on a Friday, for those like me who like our space I’d avoid at peak times.Lunch time was busy, no free tables inside, fortunately we had sat down and ordered before the run. A Huge Pole hot dog arrived, ends curled up, looking like something that was made to be the perfect size for lunch. It did not disappoint. 7 for the hot dog and 3 for chips, which were bland, is ok for that once a week lunch treat.
I actually quite liked this pub, but this review focuses on the food…I had a Huge Pole in The Ring the other day. Trust me, correct use of initial caps is very important in that last sentence. In fact, as The Ring was full, I had a Huge Pole outside The Ring.Right, now I’ve got that off my chest, I can reveal The Ring is actually a relatively nondescript pub in Southwark, and it holds a secret. It’s currently serving the full range of franks from Big Apple Hot Dogs, alongside a short burger menu. So I sampled both.Price: Burger 7Presentation: Not bad. It looks the part, save for the top-loaded lettuce, but impressively no stick is needed to hold it together, or keep it upright. It’s plated on its own, and sides come in enameled bowls with greaseproof paper. It’s a cross between a trendy diner, and pub grub. In all honesty, it’s a bit confused.Read the full review of the burger from The Ring, Southwark at http://www.hamburger-me.com/2014/03/review-burger-at-ring-southwark.html
The Ring, right across the street from Southwark tube station, is a popular pub amongst locals and visitors of the nearby Young Vic theatre. Although the pub may appear small and a bit outdated, with it’s old boxing memorabilia hanging on the wall, it actually offers great Asian food (I recommend the spring rolls and Tom Yum soup).Although the traffic can be bothersome in busy times, the Ring offers lots of outdoor seating and sunlight on a summer day.
