Delicious, reasonably priced food; great, knowledgeable staff and a cosy and welcoming atmosphere make this the best pub in the area. If you come around on Sunday, the roasts are what you should go for, but is advisable to book in advance. Definitely worth a visit.
Tucked round the corner of the Lammas park is this charming little pub. There are plenty of tables inside, but the real appeal of eating at The Bells is doing so in the outdoor area. It has a courtyard-like appearance, due to the white stone slabs and the huge climbing plants that cover the walls. During the summer, the little area gets great sun coverage too.The Bells serves lovely pies that change daily as a ‘special’ – my favourite is the chicken, ham, and leek, which has a lovely crispy pastry. I’ve also had the traditional fish and chips, and the batter was gorgeous, but the fish itself seemed rather mushy. This seems to be a one-off, though, and it’s the only negative thing I can say about the pub.
Really nice little pub. I’ve been there a number of times and the service is always really friendly, helpful and attentive. I’ve been there for quizzes, gigs, and family meals and it has been the perfect setting for each occasion. My family present The Bells as the epitome of British pub culture if people are visiting from another country. The do really good quality pub food and I particularly like their pies.
