This cafe does curries and fried chicken. We had astonishingly cheap fried chicken. If you want to limit the damage when you crave some dirty, unhealthy chicken and chips ask for the K1. Not listed on the menu, but it’s a kid’s size portion of a fried drumstick with some chips priced at 1.25. Lunch for two was a K1 with ketchup, an adult portion of chicken and chips with chilli sauce, a shared side salad (no dressing) and a shared soft drink. It all came to 3.70. Not the best fried chicken I’ve ever had, but the factory cut chips were actually very good and crisp. Batter on the chicken was a littlegreasy for my taste, but my companion was a fan of its flavor, having been spiked with chilli and herbs. It’s the only fried chicken shop in the neighborhood with a WC.
Best curry on Brick Lane – I mean the BEST>>>>not just good – the BEST – and best means good. I entertain clients in smarter places around E London and the city but when I am with buddies or clients I know well I take them to Al Badar – insist they stay (temptation is to leave this rather ordinary looking ‘cafe’ on arrival – o maybe oil the wheels a little with a pint of Doombar at The Pride of Spitalfields). Then bang – naans too hot to handle – saag panner to set your mouth tingling, tarka dhal to chase the cold away and chicken curry to fill the empty space left by the previous evenings beery bantering. All for a fiver. Heaven on the corner of Fashion Street. Just do it………..
